Spooky Public footpath Unston,Dronfield

Recommended Posts

Ok this post is not exactly about Sheffield but near enough;).Went for a walk today along the public footpath before you get to Birch hall golf club at Unstone(exit off Dronfield bypass, you come off the exit road and turn left & theres space to park your car on the left, many dog walkers stop there).

Anyway got walking on the footpath with the missus & walked for about 40 minutes(up a very steep hill, path runs parallel with the Dronfield dual carriageway).Got to a right hand clearing in the woods & decided to go up it.We suddenly came to a big wire mesh fence with large barrels behind it & misshaped coloured objects hanging from string tied to the fence. Fresh tyre tracks in the mud:o.We didn't stay long;). We turned & went back down the hill with thoughts of the Texas chain saw massacre combined with Deliverance !!!. Well spooky.Anybodyelse been on this walk/know what this is ? Not advised to go up there walking it early evening.

ha ha. we used to go camping up here in our mid teens and had some pretty strange experiences. Think they call it monk wood. Not a nice place to ride your bike in at gone midnight looking for your pals. that happened!

Can you be a bit more explanatory please

A place to stay away from, obviously. Woods are always spooky anyway, esp at twilight :help:

I thought maybe some walker groups may know what it was all about.Did a quick Google but no luck as yet.
