  1. I suspect that this post is a leg puller Though I guess it is a good idea and a novel way to discover what people think about Sheffield. Only the Mods would know by checking out his I.P
  2. Before we had a layby put in I had this problem with the narrow road. No next door neighbours so that was no problem. However to keep the verge looking res[ectable i laid flag stones down the middle of the verge so that I would not damage the verge and it did look OK. To put bricks or blocks on the verge to stop parking is an offence. Many do not know that and continue to do this. But a complaint by a motorist could lead to a prosecution. I have gone through all this . I also think that the council should turn every alternate verge into a layby. But then as with my home others start to use it leaving me with nowhere to park. Not an easy problem to solve. If the garden is low enough then have a drive put in. Mine is far too high.
  3. Like many other area's as the scum and criminals take over, The good move out whilst they have a chance to sell.
  4. At one time there were three or four millionaires living in lower Broomhall. A lot of business men Solicitors, Accountants, Professors. Yes it was a very affluent area some years ago.
  5. I guess we should teach people how to use search engines then they can save time by not asking silly questions as to where they can pick up mail and parcels. Even a quick phone call would answer that problem and many others
  6. Mail order items that people want for xmas will get there eventually before xmas. I have been waiting for important mail now for days. Tough I can understand the situation, Mail posted local for local addresses is not so bad. But surely people can wait for the mail and parcels they have ordered for xmas. The time to panic is if they do not arrive in time. I guess we should cancel xmas this year and save people a lot of money and debt....
  7. The postmen/women will catch up, They always do. They do a good job at xmas. Stop worrying they will catch up with the backlog. Many of the postal workers are expecting parcels also. This is unexpected extreme weather and they are doing their best to get the mail delivered. The weather will be getting better now so will the post. My thanks to any postperson that delivers mail over xmas.
  8. Do your kids play outside in the snow or even when it is cold. There is nothing wrong with this. The school would be very cautious also. They would not want to be in danger of compensation hunters suing them. We played soccer in the freezing cold then straight into hot showers. Cross country running even in the snow. Today schools have gone soft because parents soon find something to moan about. Kids love play either in the cold or sun. Maybe you have forgotten what it is like to be a child.
  9. I do not know if the Salutation Inn is still there now. But it turned into a Gay Club at one time. Then there was the Gate Pub a little further down the road. Our house was next door to the then swap shop. Franks right on the corner of Whitworth Lane. Now our once front room is the corner of the Police Station. Remember Hilltop Dairy. Barry the owner at the time used to give us a lot of freebies. Next door to that was the dole office. There used to be massive lines waiting for their dosh. Not too many unemployed then and this small office looked after all attercliffe. Lots of good times down the cliffe. How times have changed. The Arab Coffee Bars on the corners ( Just about every corner had an Arab Cafe.
  10. Had a drink in every single pub on Attercliffe back in the early 60's. Now that takes some doing. Though it cannot be done in one night. But. I often ask myself have things changed for the better. The community spirit in Attercliffe back then was THE BEST.
  11. Rotherham Street, Steadfast Street, Many more. My brother and a sister lived there for years. Whitworth Lane on the corner where the Police Station is now used to be our family home, Followed by Weedon Street. Attercliffe a Town within a Town.
  12. Sense at last. Yes many of these people are ex servicemen that have given service to their country. Though there is help out there now for the present day servicemen many that are much older do not know how to get help or where to go for help. Many are too proud to ask for help. I know I have been there myself. I have been depressed and thought nobody cared. I got a good kick up the butt and a lot of help to get where I am now. I was very lucky. We also have young people that have left home because of abuse and trust no-one, They exist on the streets and yes they BEG. Now we have many that would like to catalogue these people and know nothing about their plight, These same people could find themselves or one of their family in a similar situation, With the risks the Government is taking now we may see many desperate and needy people out on the streets. I have already met with many disabled pensioners and also down and outs that fear for their future. Now is the time we must help each other to get over what is about to happen.
  13. I agree with you OOmpa and I am taking this up with facebook.
  14. Some nutters out there, .........Yes I guess there is. But there are many more nutters that live around us. This guy is harmless and may I say pretty well educated. If he is happy with the way he is or maybe with a point he is making then good on him so to speak, Yes he is polite and yes he has been given abuse. But this is society today, We condemn before we have facts. I was hoping to catch him the other day, You can have a good chat with him. But I wanted to invite him over for a couple of days over x-mas. Hope I see him but if not hope someone will tell im to give Tony a ring. He will know. Let us think for a while that we may soon hit hard times. Maybe we may hit the alcohol to drown our problems. Many people out there do not have the strength or support that many of us have. Many do not have a family to help. Many are from abused families. I hate scum bag druggies and shop lifters, Even those that beg and make people feel uneasy ( In town ). But again I think that many of us are intelligent enough to be able to tell the difference between the scum and the genuine down and outs.
  15. Joe9T, They do not have to use the search lights all the time when searching, Night cameras are the tops on this chopper. It is a good service that would be appreciated by anyone that has been a victim or even those that knew the system . They just do not go for a spin as and when they feel like it. Some posters would be glad to see this if they were victims of a late night binge by burglars and car theives. It is a good service and well worth the money and maybe the odd night waking up to hear it overhead.
