  1. I'm reading "Growing up with Subbuteo". Its an autobiography by Mark Adolph who'se father invented Subbuteo. Obviously it's based around his fathers unwritten memoirs. It covers the invention of Subbuteo and wealth it brought. His fathers adultry and getting sent away to boarding school. Cracking read so far. Jim

  3. The birthday card man is spot on. Loads of Simon Elvin cards for a 3rd of the price you'd buy in the normal shops. The stalls which are there are good, just that its not as good as it was 10 years ago. Always thought they should run a 2nd hand/antique type thing as well, similar to Hoyland. Jim
  4. Just finished Alan Ball's autobiography. One of the better football biogs I've read. Best so far being Peter Swan's. Just started "The Flood" by Ian Rankin. jim
  5. A bit before the 60's, possibly even as far back as the late 40's. Been given a couple of postcards and looking for more info on them. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/surfinjim/scan0005.jpg and http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/surfinjim/scan0004.jpg In the first picture, I think its Norman Curtis on the right. No idea on the other 2, or indeed the players in photo 2, although it could be Arsenal as the opposition. Any help appreciated. Jim
  6. Ok, its not Indian, because they describe it themselves as Kashmeri. Get in the car and head to Jinnah at Ecclesfield (The old Arundel pub). Someone mentioned Taste of India @ Penistone....it must be a long time since you ate there! Jim
  7. Santos played at Hillsborough twice, once in 62 with Pele, and an afternoon match in 72, again with Pele. The 62 game was around the same time as the Inter City Fairs games (Roma,Barcelona) but was only a friendly. Santos often toured the world playing friendly games to generate income for their players. I know the 72 game was an afternoon game due to the power strikes at the time. Got programmes for both. Jim
  8. Probably not the best area to try this, but I've tried "Sheffield Football" section with out much joy. I collect 3rd party/representative games at Hillsborough, and I'm looking for the following; 45-46 Birmingham V Derby FA Semi 46-47 Sheffield V Eindhoven Inter City 47-48 Derby V Manchester United FA Semi 48-49 Wolves V Manchester United FA Semi 48-49 Sheffield V Eindhoven Inter City 49-50 Sheffield FC V Wimbledon Amateur Cup R2 50-51 Hallam V Stocksbridge CC Final 50-51 Sheff Wed A V Farsley Celtic Yorks Lge Cup Final 51-52 Gateshead V Stockport FA1 R2 51-52 Newcastle V Blackburn FA Semi 51-52 Lancs League V Northern Int. 9. Used to be footbal field behind the Angel pub at Grenoside. Was turned into housing late 70's/early 80's. Jim
  10. The bottom of Whitley lane at the Ecclesfield end, used to be Batchelors sports ground. That's now gone to be used for horses. Was used up to the late 70's. Also on the end of Clay Wheels Lane before you turn right to head up to FoxHill. There used to be a rugby ground for Sheffield Oaks, but I'm sure it was a works football ground before. Jim
  11. We used to go in a little bar on High Street on the left hand side as you go up towards Fargate. Pretty certain it was part of the hotel which is tucked away in there behind the Nat West. Can't remember the name of the hotel or the bar though????? Jim
  12. The Crap Sharks The Tim Willis Experience Both played the Hallamshire in the late 80's, 86/87 ish Jim:thumbsup:

  15. That's me too. Was a regular donor, but following a transfusion I can't donate now. Mrs Surfin had to have 13 units of blood in one go once. That was a scary time. If you do give blood, thanks, and keep up the good work. Jim:thumbsup:
  16. Mr Nice- The Autobiography of Howard Marks Was recommended and rattling through it. Very good so far. Jim
  17. No problem what so ever. Quality work and very relaxing!!! Young paul did the work, and it needed some free hand to make the flash work as an extension. All brilliant Jim
  18. Will do. Had 3 done there before. I think its all down to personal preference. I like the shop, its really clean. The guy who my previous 3 has left but I'm confident it will be the same great quality as before. Also, its extension work using existing flash they had to match whats on my arm at present. Another great plug for them! (Do I get a discount now!) Jim
  19. That sound MIGHTY cheap for a full back piece:huh:, unless I'm reading your post wrong! I'm paying around that for a sleeve extension on Friday which should take about an hour and so is spot on in my opinion. Having it done at the ever excellent Eternal Ink on Glossop Road (Do I get a discount for the plug!) Jim
  20. The biography of Steve McQueen Just started it ........... now! Jim
  21. A couple of months ago I was trying to explain to Mrs Surfin how my Gran in Scotland would send The Broons one year for Chrimbo, and then Oor Wullie the following year. Hey presto, she gets the Broons as a cheeky stocking filler for me. I'm now on the hunt for previous Oor Wullie annuals to show my little lad whose 6. I'll have to find some more serious reading now as well though! Jim
  22. I've just read and finished "The Broons 2008 annual".! Jim
  23. Flash O'Colour. Was still there last week. Looks mighty dodgy to me:suspect: As in, it just generally doesn't look a clean shop. Especially with the bandit machine in the front of the shop. That's a sign of quality:huh: Jim
