  1. No not after a medal thank you or either after your approval. My point is if I and the other couple were not their would have any of other passengers helped? The bus wasn't full , when it became clear that something was wrong I heard more than one person say how inconvenient for them and soon as they saw a another bus upped and left.
  2. We seem to live in a world of me me perhaps a by product of political thinking . Recently I had to give first aid to a ill bus driver only me and a old couple stayed to give help the rest of passengers left to get on the next bus not bothering to help so has compassion died and been replaced by selfishness?
  3. Thanks, I'm trying to find out if any of my family were in the Boer War as the family has a longstanding connection to the Army.
  4. Its not just suit and ties that seems to gone out of fashion. When serving in the Army sometimes I went out in my number two uniform ( tunic, trousers, shirt ,tie , boots polished up and a peaked cap) often got funny looks not many of the youth of today would ever think of dressing up for a night out. That said once met a young lad who was dressed in a three piece suit complete with a pocket watch and bowler hat he looked so more impressive than the track suit gang by miles.
  5. Ingoldmells isn't Las Vegas but still an hoilday its cheaper to go now , done it many a time a short break at Las Skegness enjoyed it, the moral of the lesson is the holiday is what you make it.
  6. Does Sheffield have any war memorials to the Boer Wars, if so were are the memorials situated and is their any info either online or in the archives about the regiments that were sent to Africa?
  7. Funny that for ten years of life I served Queen and country and seen action in Iraq. But yet struggle to find fulfilling employment ?
  8. I'm disabled myself the infamous ESA is not fit for purpose full stop. Too many on this forum take delight in watching others suffer what does that say about our society?
  9. My Dad often went to the Buccaneer in the late 1960s and dragged my mum their once . Would have loved to have seen this place in full swing .
  10. I think I will save my money, you can't beat a good single malt whisky.
  11. Thanks for the info, I bet the Elm Tree is in a right state inside wise.
  12. Finished? ---------- Post added 07-09-2015 at 22:44 ---------- I very much doubt it mate.
  13. At one time it was possible to get a grant towards buying a uniform but that's long ago ,is their any help for parents now? ---------- Post added 07-09-2015 at 22:34 ---------- I don't live in Sheffield now but the area I live in now is classed as depraved in plain English skint according to the local government.
  14. I think the old Town Hall would make a great museum of crime and history of Sheffield in general. The building needs a lot of money spending on it, not sure how it could be turned into flats given the listed status unless court room living has become all the rage?
  15. In the area where I live now is what would classed as a depraved area, many struggle with everyday bills. The cost of a school uniform for some is a real struggle is it time the idea of school uniforms to be dropped and replaced with a guidelines of acceptable dress? Surely its more important for the child to attended school and learn than how they are dressed. In most European countries schools have long abandoned the school uniform is it time for Britain to follow suit?
  16. More for my record keeping as the the derelict Elm Tree pub at Manor Top been demolished, the last Iv heard their was a planning application to build a petrol station on the site? Thanks.
  17. If you can get to Chesterfield there is a Hulley bus to Bakewell they run hourly. The stop you want is on New Beetwell Street outside the Register Office . If you get on the X17 at Sheffield bus station stay on it till the last stop at Chesterfield coach station get off walk up turn left pass the car park walk on untill the register office three stops down.
  18. Iv been experimenting with Tesco's Everyday Range' anything from cereals to joints of meat. So far its been fairly good a few horrors along the way but overhaul not bad. Iv tired their value soap not bad and the shampoo is ok too. Are we just paying for the name and fancy packaging for our food?
  19. The Traveller's pub that stood on the Moor never saw it myself long gone before I was born. But what a cracker of a design for a pub. Just need to win the lottery and it be rebuilt in no time, the first pint on me.
  20. Seen a few bottles of English whisky for sale not cheap but looked ok. Is their any difference in taste or is it the same as Scottish whisky?
  21. Perhaps Iv been lucky or my turn not due yet,but Iv never had any problems while visiting Sheffield. Been to Derby which on the other hand can't say the same unfortunately. Not a nice experience regardless of where it happens.
  22. The Burton building was bombed in 1940 and left as burnt out shell. After the war the council was wanting to keep the building but the costs involved plus rationing of materials ended any hope of saving it. The building was demolished in c 1963.
