  1. Many of the workers in China believe all factory jobs will be 100% automated in 10 years. Robots are taking over in many other spheres also.

What happens there, will happen everywhere eventually.

What will people do for work, especially those who are not too bright? (average IQ in Britain is 100.)

The difference between this and the industrial revolution, is that back then, lots of new jobs were created. That's not the case this time around.

How will we cope with mass unemployment? And shouldn't the Government be putting something in place now?

Birth control, but other countries would need to do there bit and somehow I cannot see that happening.

  2. I have though about going to CAB, but put it off. Now after reading every ones posts I am going to see if I can speak to an advisor at the CAB.

So thank you everyone for your support.

tzijlstra is right it is time government looked at these companies for

miss -selling extended warranties. This warranty was more suited for a family not a single woman. It did not cover the electrical recliner chair which is why I took the warranty out in the first place, but the sales man was not being honest when he sold me the warranty.

  3. I bought a sofa and 2 chairs from SCS just over 2 years ago and already it is falling to pieces. I also took out a certificate of insurance but when I tried to put in a claim I was told it was due to wear and tear. Living on my own I was amazed when they said the insurance does not cover my claim.

The man who was sent to look at my furniture was definitely on the side of the insurance company.

The extended warranty is worth nothing, when I purchased my furniture from SCS at Gateshead Metro Centre the sales man said it covers everything. Your do not get to see the small writing on your certificate until your furniture is delivered. I will put this down to a costly experience.

  4. I wonder if our European partners are worried in case Britain does leave the EU and other countries also decide to leave. What tactics would be used towards this country to try and discourage other countries from trying to leave? I do not trust these EU ministers. However I certainly can't see Romania or Bulgaria wanting to leave the EU in a hurry.

My vote in the referendum will be to leave.

  5. My cousin believes her late father was sent to Belsen Concentration Camp. He was in the The Durham Light Infantry during the second world war. They found an old note book after he died that was used as a diary. In his diary he would describe the villages they were going through in the north of Germany and how nice some of them looked.

One of the last things he wrote was that they were told to go to a village, the name Belson was not used and that they had to take powdered milk with them and various other supplies. He also wrote that is was a hush hush job and they had been ordered not to talk about it. In his diary he said it was something that would live with him for the rest of his life after they entered this village. After that he stopped writing in his diary and he never talked about it.

My cousin said that in later years he would never set foot in Germany again even if he was given a free holiday. So we can only guess that he was taking supplies to Belsen.

  6. I think you will find they do them over the phone free, and the facebook page is free to join. I have used them many times and I know Michelle the founder personally :)

She was quoted £45 for over the phone and the price is the same if you go into the office. The facebook page is free. Perhaps this service has become popular and they now have to charge as they are non funded.

  7. I feel really sorry for all of these people who have had their homes flooded, it could take years to try and put their property's right. As it did with some of the houses in the Hillsborough area when they were flooded in 2007.

I remember walking from Hillsborough to Grenoside when Sheffield had floods in 2007, you could not avoid walking in the sludgy water. My legs and skirt were wet and covered in sludge, and there was no hot water to have a bath when I did get home because the electricity was not working. At least I did not have to deal with the trauma of my house being flooded.

Does any one know if Government can claim grants from the EU to help with repairs caused by the floods? If not for people's homes then are they allowed help towards any damage for the infrastructure?

  8. I think Mr Trump wanted a temporary ban on Muslims entering America.

We are told by Government that the UK has raised its threat level from substantial to severe of an Isis attack in the UK, and that we face the biggest threat to our country than ever before. If America is in the same situation then I do not blame Mr Trump for what he has said.

I would love to know how many terrorist attacks M15 has stopped in the last six months in the UK, also how many attacks had been stopped in America. Before we can judge this man I wonder what he knows about the level of threat by Isis in America.

  9. The Last Kingdom, the new BBC2 series based on the the Bernard Cornwell novels about the 9th Century invasion of the Saxon kingdoms of England and Alfred The Great, is due to start on Thursday 22nd October (or this Saturday in the US).

Early reviews are very positive and the intro below is very atmospheric.

Just watched the last series tonight of The Last Kingdom. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe there is going to be a second series, but what a shame we have got to wait another year to watch it.

  10. From the first trail to the second trial of Pistorius, Reeva Steenkamp's family have acted with dignity. I hope they will be able to move on with their life's now the correct verdict has been reached.

How many years will Pistorius serve? At some stage he will be released and be able to continue with his life. The same can't be said for poor Reeva.

  11. Me too, loved that show, is Wilfred Bramble still alive, by the way? I know Harry H. Corbett died many years ago at a young age

No Wilfred Bramble is dead. There was some talk a number of years ago about a remake of Steptoe and Son, I don't think any thing came of it. I do not think it would be as good as the original. Who would they get to play the part? Bramble and Corbertt were brilliantly cast as father and son.

  12. Whats happening in Russia?:suspect:

    ---------- Post added 24-11-2015 at 21:56 ----------

That may be so,but the decision to shoot down a Russian jet that is posing zero danger to Turkey,is a very foolish decision indeed.

Russia may have lost army personnel and equipment today, but they have gained plenty of ammo for their media machine.

I should have said that Russia seems to be getting more aggressive towards the west and other countries. Perhaps you need to talk to tzijlstra he is full of sensible information and probably the most intelligent person on this forum. On all subjects.

  13. The two most significant Eastern empires of the 2nd half of the previous millenium, the Ottomans and the Russians, had frequent wars, usually related to Black Sea territories including the Krim (Crimea).

After the demise of the Ottoman and Russian Empires things have been relatively stable although Turks still claim parts of Russia and Russia still feels strongly about Eastern Anatolia as it borders several autonomous Russian regions that are strategically vital (read oil).

The Turks have not been holding back against the Russians in the recent Syrian operations and shot down a Russian jet this morning and threatening to do so several times before, claiming Turkish airspace was violated.

The trouble is: Turkish airspace equals NATO airspace, Russia and NATO aren't exactly friends, despite the Russians sending a replacement dog to French police last week.

This incident will likely be coated in diplomatic to-and-fros but the Russians will be very annoyed as they believe they have a legitimate mandate to bomb Syria, the same mandate that NATO forces are using.

NATO is annoyed because Russia bombs anything opposed to Assad, whereas NATO is bombing anything that is ISIS and this incident will increase the gap between the aggressors. What it might also do is see Putin hatch some sort of revenge plan, if he does retaliate against the Turks we could well be in a very unpleasant situation.

A brief history lesson about the Turkish and Ottoman Empire, enjoyed reading it. However if is frightening what is happening in Russia.

  14. Is that the same Russia that is blaming the West for creating IS?

Maybe you should go on RT news website(choose any page),and read the comments below and you will soon see what a lot of Russians think about us.

"selective humanity" and "Russia" in the same paragraph :hihi:.

I wonder how many minute silences took place in Russia when MH17 was shot down by a Russian missile?

That is just what I was thinking about Russia.
