Didn’t Government want the Royal Family to leave the country at the start of the war but they refused to go. They even refused to leave London when it was being heavily bombed, they stayed inside Buckingham Palace which did get bombed. The Queen Mother learnt how to use a gun incase Germany invaded the country. I agree with you tho about Sunak having a home in California where he and his family can retreat to.

A Look Around Old Sheffield (Film)
hauxwell replied to SheffieldForum's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Enjoyed watching the video. Happy memories of Paradise Square, my Dad worked there, remember walking down the steep hill to get a lift home when he finished work. -
Sad news, I thought he was going to be okay after treatment. RIP

The noises coming from the camp I knew what was happening, so yes the film makers did a good job there. Not sure if a younger generation would tho. A film that shows the true horrors of how Jews were treated in W11 has to be Schindler's List. There were parts of that film I couldn't watch because of the brutality shown in the film. Hope Mum is okay.

Thornton's Vanilla Fudge - Which Stores Sell?
hauxwell replied to the_mandarin's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I have seen small bags of Thornton’s fudge sold in the Poundland shops, not recently tho. I also like there fudge and use to buy them from there. -
The Zone of Interest Based on a true story about the commandant of Auschwitz Concentration Camp who lives an idyllic life with his wife and children right next to the concentration camp. Although you don’t see what is happening in the camp you can hear gunshots, screaming and the sound of trains and furnaces. I didn’t really enjoy this film but others thought it was very good. 6/10

Changes To Stagecoach Tram Tickets From 22/03/24
hauxwell replied to Resident's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I keep wondering when we will get the new metro trains up here, they keep changing the dates. The seats on the existing trains are dirty probably because people put their feet on them. The latest date given when the new fleet of 46 trains will be in operation is the end of the year and early 2025. I hope the old trains can old out till then, they have been known to break down. -
The Greatest Ever Sheffielders

It would be nice if you did extend the edit time slightly in the future. As Rockers rule said keep up the good work. -
Have We Got Used To People Looking Different Now?
hauxwell replied to cressida's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
I also think music played it’s part on how people looked. Brylcreem must have been thanking it’s lucky stars when the Teddy Boy look was so popular, it must have made a decent profit for the manufacturer of the stuff. However when the Beatles became famous with their much longer and less perfectly styled hair I’m sure Brylceem profits didn’t do as well. Can you still buy Brylcreem? -
I had a coffee in Marks and Spencers new refurbished cafe in Newcastle yesterday. You can only order food and drinks on a big screen just like McDonald's, and you have to pay by card, it's become a cashless cafe. Fine I can except that, it's not as though I go there very often. When the waitress brought my coffee in a small cup without a saucer that is now classed as a large coffee, it was lukewarm and just over half full. A friend I was with took the coffee back and asked them to fill the cups. There was another lady who also complained about her coffee being cold. What a poor set up, I expected better from Marks.

America never left the days of the Wild West behind when cowboys had gunfights in the main streets as depicted in the movies. They are still at it now.

Its been on the local news up here in Newcastle that the woman will lose one of her eyes. At least if she makes a recovery she won’t have to sit through his trial and know that one day he will be released from prison.

Hopefully he has jumped into the river. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has lost his sight in his injured eye, I think he will have been in a lot of pain, serves him right.

We Need A Tunnel Under The Pennines
hauxwell replied to Anna B's topic in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
There was rumours that there use to be a tunnel from Sheffield Castle to Manor Lodge where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Now if the old ruins could be found and rebuilt it might help you get home a little bit earlier. -

Minimum Alcohol Unit Price (Scotland)

It might be cheaper Padders if you start your own distillery in the cellar of padders bar. -
I'm sure some states in America make Castration mandatory for men who are convicted of sexual offences against children. Should do it in this country before they release pedophiles from prison.

I agree with Daddy you’ve still got it.
