  1. Sad to hear the news about Fiona Phillips. She is doing clinical trials on a new drug for Alzheimer’s. I hope it proves to be successful for her. I use to love to watch her on the breakfast show when I was getting ready to go to work. She has such a lovely personality. Fiona’s mother and father both died of Alzheimer’s. She said at some stage she anticipated she would get disease because it can be hereditary. She was hoping she would be older than 61 before she was diagnosed with it. All the very best Fiona with the clinical trials.
  2. There was something on the news that the police have been given new powers to deal with the just stop oil protesters. Whatever they are, the police wants to use them.
  3. Looking at it I thought he could easily have dragged the police officer along with him when he set off in the car.
  4. I agree with you about it being an excuse for gratuitous violence and looting.
  5. If a terrorist has a bomb strapped to him or someone who is carrying a gun, shooting him in the leg means he is still able to use his hands to detonate a bomb and carry on shooting. In those circumstances I can understand why the police need to shoot to kill.
  6. Yes that’s his name Mark Duggan. Don’t worry should we experience riots again Boris Johnson bought water cannons to make sure our police are fully equipped to deal with the situation, or were they sold for scrap? Seriously tho we have a useless lot running the country and the major opposition parties are no better.
  7. In 2011 we had riots in this country when Mark Dolan was shot by the police. The riots started in London and spread to other cities. Buildings burnt down and looted and cars destroyed. The police were useless at first they just sat back and watched it. It’s only a matter of time before it happens again in the UK.
  8. I second that. God knows how much it must cost to get property and car insurance if you live in Paris.
  9. Watching the news and pieces of the sub pulled out of the ocean it looked like a flimsy plastic object. It didn’t look like it was built to withstand the pressure of the deep ocean. As Mister Gee said in his post people paying extortionate prices and not asking what pressure tests it’s gone through is madness. I’m surprised Hamish Harding didn’t do his research on safety checks. As for plastic waste the then Prince Charles in the 1970’s tried to address the issue of plastic in our oceans. He said, “One day we will have to deal with this indestructible plastic waste problem”. At the time people thought he was dotty and eccentric. As we now know he was a forward thinking man for his time. Whether you like the King or not you have to give him credit for being right and making people aware that plastic is polluting our oceans.
  10. That is how I would sum up man’s best friend. They give you loyalty, friendship and companionship.
  11. As suggested getting him a guide dog sounds like a good idea. Failing that what about contact lenses? Hope he doesn’t hurt himself tho when he bumps into trees.
  12. The Night Manager It’s a spy thriller and all six episodes are on iplayer. An ex British solder works as a night manager in an Egyptian hotel. He is contacted by British intelligence to spy on a business man who secretly sells weapons. Not bad. I binged watched it over 4 days. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a second series.
  13. He could have mentioned to his aunt that he was nervous, but it showed you a photo of him in the sub laughing and holding his rubik cube. Whether he was frightening or not makes no difference now, as you say none returned.
  14. Do you think it was Dean Martin you were thinking about?
  15. The poor woman looked heartbroken when she gave the interview on TV.
  16. The mother of the 19 year old who lost his life on the sub said she gave up her place to allow her son to go on the sub. He wanted to fulfil his dream to try and break a Rubik cube record 3,700m under the sea. She said both father and son had wanted to go down for a very long time. The boy’s mother was waiting for them on the support ship when news came through that contact had been lost.
  17. A relative of mine use to shop at Simmonites on Division Street after they moved from Castle Market when it closed. I was told they opened the shop on Division Street with another stall holder from the old Castle Market because it was cheaper than paying rent in the new Moor Market.
  18. I was curious to know which country was responsible but as you say it is international waters. I didn’t know that.
  19. The sub looks like a toy, it doesn’t look as though it could withstand all of that pressure to me, but I don’t know much about mini subs. I’m curious to know if you have to have a license and safety certificate to operate tours to the Titanic, in fact I didn’t know that they were allowed. I was all for exploring the Titanic when it was first found a number of years ago to see if they could find out more to what happened on the fateful day. Now as I’ve already said in one post the Titanic and all of those poor souls who died on it should allowed to rest in peace.
  20. Yes I think you are right. The experts are saying they died quickly, better then slowly running out of oxygen.
  21. From the beginning you’ve been right on what you thought had happened to the sub.
  22. I agree with you about the human spirit. However I think time is now against those in the sub. If they are not rescued today then it will be a recovery, if that’s possible, and not a rescue mission. I do hope I’m wrong tho.
