  1. Thank you for the information. I’ll make a note of that. I seem to watch a lot of things on YouTube these days.
  2. I’m another one who will not mourn him. Pleased he ended his days in prison and not Broadmoor Hospital where he was hoping to remain for the rest of his life, I suspect conditions were better than a prison. He did put Sheffield on the map for a while, the police who caught the Yorkshire Ripper.
  3. Hope you manage to make it next year Presley. I suspect you might have been in the Armed Forces when you say you should have been on parade. I’ve been a few times to Barkers Pool Remembrance Service, it’s much nicer than the one at Newcastle where I now live. To many Seagulls up here and when they fire the gun signal to end the two minute silence they are flying all over the place. Never seen anything like it before.
  4. Once more Presley I agree with you. I am watching Remembrance Sunday at the moment and I will observe the 2 minute silence.
  5. I agree with you when you say it backfired. He caused a bit of a backlash when he said it.
  6. I would have preferred a younger person, but we are where we are.
  7. It was a bit soon to receive the Noble Peace Price within months of his Presidency. Did he get it because he was the first Black President of the US or something else? I wanted Trump to win the election. I’m not sure if Biden will be a friend to this country, but I hope I’m wrong. Because Biden was the vice President to Obama, will he carry out the same threat and punish the UK for leaving the EU by putting us at the back of the queue for a trade deal? It’s beginning to feel like a game of Snakes and Ladders trying to get a trade deal with the US, it appears to be all dependent on which President is rolling the dice, are we at the top of the ladder or are we going down it again?
  8. Yes I agree with you. Unlike Obama who said Britain would go to the back of the queue for trade deals with the US if it votes to leave the EU.
  9. Sensible post. I’m not sure how it will affect this country who wins the presidency, but it’s the American people who decide. If Trump loses he still remains in the job for a few more months. It will be interesting to see what he does in that time.
  10. Yes you are right about fame being the cause of so much tragedy. Some can handle it and other can’t. Elvis was one of those who couldn’t. The only person who could save Elvis was Elvis and he just didn’t want to.
  11. If that’s the case here’s hoping we get through the rest of the day and tomorrow safely before lockdown. We don’t want any more here.
  12. There is more chance of you catching the virus walking around supermarkets and using public transport in some parts of the country than sat in a cafe having a cup of coffee in the day time, I’m not talking about the Bars. A lot of effort and money has gone into making them safe. Screens round the tables and waitresses service. I also feel it hardly seems fair.
  13. Elvis. The Man That Rocked. It’s a documentary on C5 about Elvis Presley. He had the looks the voice in his younger days and he blew it all. Even in death he still earns millions of pounds. He really was the real deal.
  14. The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier. It’s an historical fiction novel about a Quaker lady who emigrates to America in 1850’s. I’m nearly at the end of the book. It’s not bad but not the most enjoyable book I have read.
  15. Sad news that he has died but he did live to a good age. He was a good actor but my favourite film was Entrapment. Catherine Zeta Jones was also in the film.
  16. I’m pleased Janie48 mentioned Abigails Party, at first I thought it was a bit dated when I first started to watch it, but that is partly why I enjoyed it so much, and the good acting particularly by Alison Steadman an actress who I haven’t watched much until she was in the TV series Life. No mobile phones in this play and you could buy a house in a decent area for £21,000. I will keep my eyes open for Nuts in May now Rollypolly has mentioned it.
  17. Thank you. I might see if I can find it on Iplayer over the weekend.
  18. I was sent a packet of Christmas cards the last year I lived in Sheffield. I did like the cards, they were simple landscape winter scenes of the countryside and mountains. The original paintings was done by people who had no arms, the artists used their feet or mouth to hold the pen or brush. The small packet of cards was free, there was an order form to buy more and make a donation. I didn’t buy any more cards I’d already bought my Christmas cards but I did send a small donation. I don’t know if they sent more cards the year after because I had moved house. Rollypolly is right when she says it is designed to play on your conscience. It did mine.
  19. I also liked the Alison Steadman storyline best. I haven’t seen Abigail’s Party but I will make a note of it. If there is a bit of Beverly in all of us I hope you still possess the carefree Beverly before she married her husband and not the controlled and dominated woman she was turned into.
  20. I’m not a big fan of Cliffs, there is a few of his songs that I like. I’ve just watched him being interviewed by Piers which I enjoyed. I thought Cliff looked his age especially when you look at the eye area of his face, it’s probably the only part of his face that hasn’t had Botox injections. He certainly has kept himself in good shape tho, he said he is the same weight as what he was as a young man. Wish I could say the same. South Yorkshire Police didn’t handle his case very well, what a shock it must have been for him. My favourite Cliff record was, Miss You Nights. It’s an awful record to listen to if you’ve just gone through a painful breakup with your partner.
  21. What about contacting adult social care also as you say the Macmillan nurse might be able to give you advice. If you phone the council they should point you in the right direction. It’s nice of you to be concerned for her welfare.
  22. I’m not a Labour supporter, but I thought Brown handled the banking situation okay, but there seemed to be a lot of reckless lending of money when he was Chancellor and Prime Minister. The majority of politicians on all sides are corrupt chancers, it goes with the job.
  23. Not a bad idea to carry the dept forward and if Boris loses the next election he could always do what the disgraceful Labour Party did under Gordon Brown, leave a note saying, Sorry there is no money left.
