stpetre
I've read before, perhaps on these pages, about American servicemen frequenting the pubs and other businesses in Sheffield city centre during WW2. Places that included the Grand Hotel's bars and other outfits in the Balm Green/Cambridge St. area such as the then 'Barley Corn' which had a reputation for 'Ladies of the night' that extending into the 1960's. My question what were they doing in Sheffield in a military way-apart from the obvious- were there any camps in the locality? and certainly no air bases as the nearest would be probably to the east of Doncaster. LAURA4
don't know what they were doing though there was a camp at Norton airfield, but I know one place they used to go, my Aunty Mable's house ! ,she and her daughter always had a housefull of an evening I was about 3 at the time but was in dancing school they always had me do a little song and dance for them. I used to share all the gum, chocolate, and things they gave me with all the other kids
