WestTinsley
With only 2 councils now pushing the Sheffield city region it beggars belief why they haven't joined the YDM "They said they would work with trade unions, MPs, businesses and political groups to find a way forward. The statement said: “At the same time, we will be seeking an urgent meeting with ministers to discuss how best we can work as partners to progress a One Yorkshire devolution deal and obtain clarity on the government’s position. “We are confident that given the right deal and the right funding, Yorkshire can finally complete the missing piece in the Northern Powerhouse project benefiting Yorkshire, the North and the whole country in the process.” The latest proposal for Yorkshire comes two years after a government deadline for devolution plans passed. It also faces disagreements among local authorities after three did not sign up to the One Yorkshire approach. Sheffield and Rotherham remain committed to a separate Sheffield City Region deal. Wakefield Council has also not taken part in One Yorkshire discussions." AMR67
So the title should read "Councils back 'One Yorkshire' devolution plan..(except Sheff/Roth'm & Wakefield).
WestTinsley
So the title should read "Councils back 'One Yorkshire' devolution plan..(except Sheff/Roth'm & Wakefield). Well it's a Sheffield forum, and Wakefield arent 100% against the Yorkshire Devolution Plan and unlike Sheffield and Rotherham councils they have no alternative as the Leeds city region has been shelved

Funky_Gibbon
The fact that the Government have already said it's never going to happen might be a small stumbling block... although neither should the South Yorkshire one either. Anything that came out of George Osborne's head isn't going to benefit us.
BHRemovals
nobody knows what they want to do, hs2 is the biggest farce.
sheffstats
I am 100% behind the Yorkshire devolution movement personally. The handling of the HS2 alone is a clear indication of how little the powers that be care about anything north of Birmingham. As the biggest county in England and a key tourism spot in the UK, we should be governing ourselves and acting in our own interest.
WestTinsley
Then there was 2... time Sheffield and rothm scrapped it Tory Govt: Councils must stick with Sheffield City Region deal Barnsley and Doncaster have been told they cannot join devolution in Yorkshire and must stick to the Sheffield City Region deal, in a bombshell letter from Sajid Javid. The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government wrote to Yorkshire leaders on Friday offering discussions on a county-wide deal for the first time - but insisted no council from South Yorkshire could be part of it. http://www.thestar.co.uk/business/councils-must-stick-with-sheffield-city-region-deal-1-8758577 ---------- Post added 18-09-2017 at 14:57 ---------- That's the third and fourth borough to leave SCR South Yorkshire devolution deal scrapped amid acrimony Monday 18 September 2017 COUNCIL leaders today effectively scrapped the Sheffield City Region devolution deal. The decision led to acrimony as today's meeting broke up with leaders of Barnsley and Sheffield councils in what appeared to be a heated exchange. http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/south-yorkshire-devolution-deal-scrapped-1-8759112/amp
Jeffrey Shaw
As West Tinsley comments, today's meeting of all four SY councils failed to achieve agreement: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-41306764 I’ve no idea why SYCC was abolished. HMG seems intent on re-inventing something that looks very similar and apparently refuses to countenance devolution to all three counties combined (NY, SY, and WY). El Cid
Should a ‘One Yorkshire’ discussion be moved to general discussions? I am not aware of Sheffield being in the center of Yorkshire
