SpikeMac
It could be one. Difficult to tell from your blurryvision link. Don't worry though, it is mostly paper talk.
megalithic
Awwwww, poor spider. You really don't need to kill them mate.
Robbie Loving
Awwwww, poor spider. You really don't need to kill them mate. It's them or us I'm of more concern for my dog, because if he saw one crawling around he may try pawing at it or eating (stupid Labrador). I'm worried about the effects it would have on him. Only reports I've seen link to bites on people and it being very rare that anything serious would happen.
megalithic
Well i'm not sure of the real statistics but i'd say you're about a million times more likely to be stung by a wasp than be bitten by a false widow. The press really have put the frighteners on people with their idiotic stories.
Bethsmummy
How d'ya kill it without making it flat?? or is the pic whilst it was still alive? Horrible looking thing but I'm not seeing the white on its back so maybe a house spider.

steroc
On average 5 people in the uk are killed every year by wasp or bee stings. Do you know what the statistics for people killed by False Widow Spiders or any type of spiders are in the uk, zero (there are only 2 spider related deaths on average reported worldwide). Yet the Daily Star and other papers still insist on scaring people with inaccurate headlines like Flesh Eating Spiders, Deadly Spiders and A Plague Of Killer Spiders http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/344380/Flesh-eating-spiders-coming-to-a-house-near-you Also most of the bites featured in these articles are suspected False Widow bites with no evidence to say it was a Spider bite. Ladystiletto
If that Spider in your photo IS a false widow then I must have encountered at least 50 of them in my house over the last few months. I live directly behind woodland and we have loads of these both outside and inside. It is far easier to pick them up with a bit of tissue and put them outside or catch them in a glass and release them then what it is to kill them. I must say though that if all else fails in trying to catch them alive then I just t*at em with an Argos catalogue In all seriousness, I am getting a taaaad bit miffed off with the press for signing the death warrant on these Beautiful creatures by causing wide spread panic in their sensational stories. Nobody knows how they are going to react to anything until they have either been bitten or stung by it. Personally I am allergic (badly) to penicillin but that does not mean that the whole drug should be banned. Its just pot luck
