Tony
He's going for the biggie! A cure to HIV & AIDS. That will be a relief for Bill Gates! Listening to the speech feels a bit like being in a Monty Python film. Follow the Gourd!

StarSparkle
I'm forced to agree with you on this. This has got to be one of the poorest, worst speeches I've ever heard in my life. He's taking my breathe away with the utter banality. You can predict exactly what he's going to say next - it's like a computer wrote the speech, 'written' by numbers. Tony
Absolutely. Hollow words that simply reiterate what's already happening without him jumping on the bandwagon. Now if he was writing cheques for these things it might be different. I don't think that Mr Gates needs to worry about being able to hang on to the $500 million dollars that he's personally pledged towards AIDS research. Crayfish
Labour do provide higher funding for science compared to previous governments, and Brown has a reasonable record for supporting medical research in actions as well as words. Didn't hear the speech though so can't comment on that.

md25
Labour do provide higher funding for science compared to previous governments,Up until Rover collapsed and the DTI had to nick tens of millions from the research councils to sort out the mess, obliging them not to spend any money for months.
