Fatal shootings in Cumbria

The BBC are reporting that the police are still searching for Derek Bird, who has been identified as the gunman involved in the shooting of a number of people in Whitehaven and Egremont in Cumbria.

At present it is being reported that there have been at least 7 shootings, with at least 3 people being killed.

My parents live south of Whitehaven and have been told to close their shop and stay indoors if possible. Scary stuff!

At least you are in the good position of knowing that they are safe and well, even if they're shut inside.

I hope that the police find this man soon.

This is an awful dreadful scenario. So few police up there as they aren't generally needed.

This will be a foregone conclusion ending i'm afraid. Just hope noone else gets injured in the process.

If they know the car, surely they have been tracking it in a helicopter? And using the heat seeking devices to track this man down. If all local people are being told to stay indoors, surely they will find him soon.

He has apparently changed cars and has then taken off on foot, so there's no car to follow unfortunately.

Have just heard this on the BBC News, it's shocking and really scary. It's so rare that we hear of gun men going on the rampage in this country, thankfully.

Last I heard there's one fatality confirmed and the man is on foot in a village outside Whitehaven
