Frazer1974
THE 2011 Poppy Appeal is just around the corner, and Royal British Legion branches across the city are appealing for volunteer collectors to help make this year a success. But every year the number of collectors falls by thousands across the country as people become too frail to help. All eight of the city’s branches need a new generation of volunteers to come forward and spend just a few hours collecting for the appeal, something which will not just raise much-needed funds for the registered charity but will also help change the public’s perception of the Legion. Last year’s Poppy Appeal in Sheffield raised several hundreds of thousands of pounds towards a national record figure of £36 million, which went towards the Legion’s work with veterans and their families who have served in conflicts ranging from the two World Wars through to the Falkland Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. Even if you can only spare an hour or so, all help is greatly received. PM me for details please.

Frazer1974
Hi there Miss Lounty. Great to hear you want to help. If you can't PM me then please try texting me, stating where in Sheffield you are. Then I will pass on your details to your nearest branch. mistyblue
Isn't it just amazing how few people have replied to this? Sheffield has a massive number of war dead from both world wars and subsequent wars and conflicts, sad that so far only one has responded. Kind of tells you something doesn't it? Frazer1974
Hi all, I've just emptied my inbox, so those who have sent failed PMs please try again. People who want to help, I will link you to your local branch, who will then contact you. I'm with Stannington Branch, who cover most of S6 and some of S35 out to Oughtibridge, Worrall, Wharnecliffe Side, Bradfield etc... We can work around whatever hours people can spare, although we usually work in 4 hour shifts at locations like Tesco (infirmary Road), Morrisons (Penistone Rd) and Hillsborough Precinct. So either 9-1, 1-5, 5-9. Other branches will cover other supermarkets across the city in similar ways. It's a really rewarding thing to do, and shows you a lot about human nature! @mistyblue - I've had a few PMs, but we always need more collectors. PM me with your details please! @sazaboo - Yes, we can sort you out with a tin for your office, once the usual checks have been done. And you can wander around as many floors as you like! PM me for details. @stupid head - if you let us know when you're free and where you're based, I'm sure we can find something worthwhile and rewarding for you to do. @SheffDancer - PM me with you postcode, and I'll link you with you local branch.
