TaxiBaz
How about two wooden pedals under the table with switches activated when pressed. Have the user look at a green screen on the computer. Tap the right pedal as if you have your foot on the accelerator. This sets off the timer counter for a random time. 3,5,7 secs ets. When the screen turns red after this time, the user must move his foot and tap the other pedal. Just time the user's foot movements. And show them on screen. Simples. The switches could be wired into a standard mouse. Left and right mouse button clicks are easily read by basic programming languages.
TaxiBaz
I've wrote the software. It's a small app, works on (should) any version of Windows. Will provide a link to it tomorrow tea time. What I have found, which the OP may find of use, the longer you wait for the screen to change colour, your reaction time actually decreases dramatically. Pulling onto a fast moving road and suddenly realising it is stationary. Quick reaction. Join the carriageway, retune the radio, switch the sat nav on, bang. You've lost your small attention scale.
