Real estate for ran$om

Recommended Posts

A documentary called 'real estate for ran$om', a very good one indeed!

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/real-estate-4-ransom/

It considers;

People buying & selling property - making more than doctor, engineer etc. - a complete waste of human capital.

Land monopoly is the mother of all monopoly;

Land monopoly is not the only monopoly, but it is by far the greatest of monopolies -- it is a perpetual monopoly, and it is the mother of all other forms of monopoly.

Subsidising 2nd homes (but not 2nd jobs). Reduced taxes on 2nd properties (or even the outright purchase of them for our MPs!), but increased income taxes on 2nd jobs.

Enforced property scarcity.

The inability of non property owners to compete for property with property owners - unfair advantage - one that is enhanced by down right evil forms of usury such as buy to let.

That land sits idle - Whilst men are forced into unemployment and banned form using the land to create employment (In this country it is even worse - the idle landowners are paid out of our income taxes to let land sit idle!)

Whenever there is in any country, uncultivated lands and unemployed poor, it is clear that the laws of property have been so far extended as to violate natural right.

The earth is given as a common stock for man to labour and live on. If, for the encouragement of industry we allow it to be appropriated, we must take care that other employment be furnished to those excluded from the appropriation.

If we do not the fundamental right to labour the earth returns to the unemployed. It is too soon yet in our country to say that every man who cannot find employment but who can find uncultivated land, shall be at liberty to cultivate it, paying a moderate rent.

But it is not too soon to provide by every possible means that as few as possible shall be without a little portion of land. The small landholders are the most precious part of a state.

How taxes have been removed form property and pushed onto individuals in the form of income tax, consumption tax.

How the economic rent has been privatised for the benefit of a minority and caused social harm.

Hong kong - Often praised on here for low income taxes has a 17% top rate of income tax (2% for minimum wages earners - it is 32% over here in the UK), but far higher LAND TAXES - 1/3rd revenue comes from land tax.

How taxing land leads to equality and increased production, how it reduces inequality and wealth (via the increased production).

The documentary is on 40 mintues long... Well worth a watch.

It argues of course for an LVT and a better society.

I watched it, very interesting and informative.

Land tax is the way to go but with a world ran by greedy self interested people, such solutions will have to wait until the greedy go too far and have their decision making powers unceremoniously taken from them.

Lets hope we don't have to wait too long.

Aye, this game has been played many times over in the UK, the people need to be educated, it is the only away to avoid this scam being carried out every 18 years for another 300+ years.

Not really. I don't have 40 minutes to waste. I would never be able to relive those 40 minutes.

I recommend you watch it if you have the time, it is a very informative video, ad sheds light on the current global economic crisis.

Too many people trying to cash in on property values increasing due to their peers making society a better place. The problem being, nobody did anything productive, because they thought they would all be better off speculating.
