Sharrowvale Parking Scheme - new thread

Recommended Posts

Of course, that's why it's such an up to date system where they never loose your forms and so many easy way's to pay.

Perhaps you mean "lose" ????

The options as to how to pay will increase within the next 3 months or so when a new system is implemented. There will be an option to apply on-line via the Council's website, although it is possible that for first applications, the documentation to prove residence and car ownership will still need to be submitted by post. However, once the application is checked and approved, there will be an option to pay on-line by credit or debit card.

It is anticipated that applications on-line will speed up the processing time. However, the turn round time currently is still within 5 working days, which the application form does tell people to allow for. The earlier post mentions that applications are "taking ages" to be processed. This is not the case.

Mid September onwards is always busy due to number of students applying all at the same time.

You're wrong, they're still taking ages with peoples applications and as far as I can see you still cannot pay online.

Plus, it is no coincidence that as soon as someone applies they're outside the address of that persons house bang on 8:00am each morning looking for their vehicle.

Yes, the aim was to free up space and that was to be achieved by discouraging commuters. Some of those commuters parked up and went into town, but many were from the immediate area. Some businesses in the area employ significant numbers of people.

Residents also were only allowed one permit at first, because it wasn't clear wheter there was enough space for second permits. Some businesses got additional permits on a time limited basis because, withthe Council's help, they were prepared to put travel plans in place which helped them reduce their reliance on car use.

Dragging up this old chestnut because something has changed recently. The parking is now permitted for 10 hours on the meter. How is that discouraging commuters ?

Sharrowvale scheme now runs to 830pm including Saturdays

How many commuters park till 830pm on Saturday?

If the council want to make more money to cover their shortfall cant they just be honest with us?

Grrrrrrrrrr

The "old" Sharrow Vale permit zone has been divided into 8 "mini-zones" and only 2 or 3 of these will operate until 8:30 p.m. These are in the areas where there are pubs and restaurants. It's to help the residents to be able to park their cars if they get home from work after 6.30 p.m. and in the past have been unable to find a space due to the customers of the pubs etc taking them. Seems a reasonable move to me.

The separate zones have been created in response to what the residents wanted when they were consulted. It's also been recognised that in some areas, commuter parking doesn't cause too much of a problem (e,g, Napier St), so parking has been allowed for up to 10 hours.

Glad to see that the proposal to extend the scheme to the Hunter House/Pinner Rd area has been turned down.

Interesting that the Council say that this idea will not be revisited for three years.

If the result of the poll had been "yes", would they be revisiting it in three years time?

I think not.
