Tyranna
Any more news about where this new venue is, when it will open, and who I need to contact if I want to do drag there (Anything from one night a week to a full week)? I also have experience running a bar at a casino. Finally in a moderator-frame-of-mind, let's keep ALL bitching off this thread, and off ALL the other threads, gay or otherwise, on the forum! BoroughGal
Whilst I'm in agreement that bitching should be kept away from this thread, by warning people not to do it, you're inviting it. So. From a proper moderator. Pretty please can we keep it on topic ?

Exactly how will this work, you get a grant from the council if you open a gay bar ? Will the council be checking the "gayness" of such bars ? Thanks, Carborundum for this welcome news; I didn't hear anything official about this before, but I have been working hard to attract Gay friends to come down to the C.I.Q., as it has a lot to offer in terms of arts activities and networking. Last June, I organised a very successful LGBT Art Exhibition at Access Space Computer centre at 1, Sydney St. It is indeed welcome news if the former Matilda pub is reopening! craigpugh
Exactly how will this work, you get a grant from the council if you open a gay bar ? Will the council be checking the "gayness" of such bars ? the regeneration money comes from europe and the government to stimulate new economic activity. Therefore the idea that if new buisness can be set up, it helps bring in, and keep in, cash, and provides jobs, etc. By encouraging more people to be using shops and leisure facilities crime goes doen becuase with more peopke around there are more 'eyes and ears', this saves public money too. So, the money wouldnt be to run a club/ bar, but there might be money to train staff, money to subsidise bringing a disused building or waste land/ demolition site back into business use, help with business planning, marketing etc. Worth looking into if there are budding entrepreneurs out there wanting help with the risk of setting something up. But how are they encouraging the development of a gay village ? What you've said above sounds pretty generic, like anyone could open-up in the area in question ?
