randolf
I'm moving to Meersbrook and need to find a solid local. Any suggestions for decent pubs in the area will be warmly appreciated. (Anywhere but the Sheaf).
Jeerumba
What's wrong with the Sheaf?? Er - there's the White Lion on Chesterfield Road - not bad if you don't mind rock music and a bit of griminess (is that a word?). The Shakespeare is across from the Sheaf, or there is the Bridge Inn down where the train bridge crosses Chesterfield Road - down the hill from the Sheaf. They're all okay. neeeeeeeeeek
The sheaf or the white are the only palces I tend to go.. I don't live in Meersbrook though.
randolf
Do you know what the pubs are like on Derbyshire lane? Google maps tell me there is the Cross Scythes, the Prince of Wales and the Mount Pleasant Inn. I can't really go into details as to why I dislike the Sheaf, because a previous thread on the subject was removed. I can only imagine that there's something wrong with expressing opinions about which pubs have good service and which don't, (suffice it to say, I've got a problem with the service!). jenz245
The cross is pretty decent. Don't go in the others so can't comment but never heard a bad word about them.
happyhippy
They're ok, but I always preferred the Sportsman on Warminster Road. It had one of the best pints of Tetley's in Sheffield when I used to pop in occasionally a few years back.
JohnM
If this was ten years ago - I'd have said the Red Lion - which was a great local with a varied crowd and good atmsophere - but they turned it into a Mr Qs then it went downhill and then it closed... royalscam
Don't go near The Sheaf. It is far too brightly lit, and if you have the temerity to ask for a lager, you get harrangued, by the staff for not trying one of their "delicious" real ales. I've drank nothing but lager in there for the 7 or so years I've been going in, with no harranging experience. Agree with you on the lighting, though
Fantomas
I've experienced the Sheaf lager haranguing in the past but they seem to have calmed down on that lately, it's been much friendlier last few times I've been. Think somebody must have had a word.
