DoubleVodka
Hello, Anyone recommend venues where I can view or buy original pieces of modern or contempary art. Places like cafes, restaurants, bars etc... Thanks DoubleVodka
sham71
try Cupola Gallery on Middlewood Road. All original artwork, mostly local artists. Its been there for over 10 years and Karen who runs it is a star!
genesiscouch
I just saw a place about halfway down London Rd between Wasabisabi and St. Marys Gate. It was a small contemporary art gallery on the west side of the road. I think it's just opened recently as I haven't noticed it before.
ArtSheffield
There are many places to view and buy art - it's worth looking at http://www.artsheffield.org This website lists contemporary art exhibitions and events across the city, including at galleries and artist studios. Not everything is for sale, but there are plenty of opportunities to meet artists by attending openings and talks, which are nearly all free, serve beer or wine and make for cracking nights out! For buying art though, I'd especially recommend looking out for Cupola Gallery, events at Bloc Space, Sheffield City Centre Markets, open up events and the Christmas Crackers show at the Millennium Galleries. I'd also join the mailing list to receive email updates from ART Sheffield - you can do this through the website. Newsletters arrive every month or so, and the last one gave details about an arts auction at the Workstation on 8 Dec. So http://www.artsheffield.org - a great resource for arts lovers in Sheffield I think!
