tabc
Hiya Has anybody been to Trippets since the refurb and new ownership? Is it any good? Do they play music? Any insight will be greatly appreciated as not sure whether to go down tomorrow for birthday drinks... Thanks

E-Man Groovin
I've been. It's now a "champagne bar". No live music, no DJs. It's supposed to be a quiet elegant place to drink. It's OK when you're in the mood for a relaxed chat, but I preferred it in old days when Bill used to run it. Friday & Saturday nights were always good un. BruciesBabe
This is by far and away the nicest bar in Sheffield. It has great bar staff, a fantastic wine and champagne menu and a lovely atmosphere. The prices are good too. This is exactly what Sheffield needs. Love it love it love it. Ousetunes
IIRC, this is a joint-venture and one of the partners is Johnny Higginbottom who runs West 10 in Ranmoor. This guy knows his wines and certainly how to run a wine bar. He's also a top fella who looks after his customers. So if it's a bottle of 1995 El Coto Rioja you're after (like we managed to find on the shelves of West 10 a few weeks back), or a nice crisp Cloudy Bay, look no further. And yes, the prices are realistic with a bottle of the latter around the £35 mark. If Johnny can copy what he's achieved at West 10, then Trippets is going to be worth a visit. And if he can get food on, then I'd better start saving now because his food is as good as his wine and worth every penny.
E-Man Groovin
"Far & away the nicest bar in Sheffield"? New Trippets is OK, but I think the Wig & Pen takes that accolade. And there are few other contenders for that title in my humble opinion...

Andy C
They've simply broadened their horizons. As well as quality wines, they now have quality beers too, with handpumps dispensing ales from local micro-breweries and fonts dispensing continental style lagers. Its a nice little venue with a bit of character, the atmosphere varies according to when you go. Midweek it is a relaxed place to enjoy a nice drink and conversation, weekend there are often bands on. Lunchtime they do food midweek.
percy filth
I went last week to see a band. It was very good. They have handpumped beer at £1.20 a half pint. (sadly I have to buy my own). The band were still playing after midnight. I had to leave because I had studies the next day. Nice place.
