SueCreasey
Hi, I'm doing a bit of searching my family tree and wonder if anyone knows if there was a SYONS STREET in Brightside. I know that there was a LYONS STREET (and still is), Thanks, Sue
Hopman
What makes you think it was Syons Street?
SueCreasey
two cencuses - 1891 syons street, 1901 lyons street. It might just be a spelling error but I want to be absolutely sure.

Hi SueCreasey Take a look at RG12/3832/144 Page 18, and the Street name is clearly written as 'Lyons St'. Also, the street index for S&N Genealogy's 1891 Census set for Yorkshire does not list a Sysons Street for Sheffield. Hope this helps.
Tuppie
Is this a transcription..? If so then the old way of writing a capital "L" is often mistranscribed as an"S". I have come across quite a few instances of this on the census at Ancestry. They have transcribed one of my family names as Senathan...it is actually Linathan and is quite clear to me on the actual image. Tuppie
SueCreasey
Thanks for that - I was pretty sure there was no Syons Street so that confirms it - cheers
Hopman
Were they on the 1881 Census at that address? Or do you have any names of neighbours who might have been there in 1881/ If so, check to see how that is transcribed.
