Len.F
I am researching my family tree, Beardsley, Oldale, Franchetti. I am interested in finding any information on Joseph Coy who married Gertrude Beardsley, approx 1910 to 1940. I think they lived in Button Lane Sheffield. Len.F
Hi Hugh - Many thanks for the info. Yes, I got the Beardsley and Oldale names the wrong way round. It all adds up,the children, marriage date and the Redfern fammily you mention. I think there could be a Mary and an Eileen Coy too. Gertrude Oldale had a sister called Florence Louise Oldale (b.1879) and she married George Barrows (b. abt.1875) I think they had 2 sons Urwin and Douglas (not sure about the spelling) If you have any info on these I would be most grateful. HughW
There are slight variations in the spelling of the names in the marriage index: GRO Marriages DEC Qtr 1898 Barrow George Sheffield 9c 792 Oldale Florence Louisa Sheffield 9c 792 some children: GRO Births MAR Qtr 1912 Barrow Phyllis (Oldale) Sheffield 9c 1284 GRO Births JUN Qtr 1914 BARROW Florence L (Oldale) Sheffield 9c 1250 GRO Births MAR Qtr 1917 Barrow George (Oldale) Sheffield 9c 1058 GRO Births MAR Qtr 1921 Barrow Irwin (Oldale) Sheffield 9c 1114 No Douglas, but if he was younger than Irwin he would not be in the FreeBMD index yet. I will check later years when I have more time. The above births are those from 1911 when the mother's maiden name was first listed in the index. There must be others from 1899-1910. You can check for yourself at FreeBMD search page. Hugh
HughW
I found one more birth, searching 1921-8, still no sign of Douglas.. GRO Births JUN Qtr 1924 BARROW Irene (OLDALE) Sheffield 9c 1008 Hugh
Len.F
Hi Hugh, Thanks again for your info. It has saved me many hours as I live in Northumberland and it would be a problem trying to fit in visits to the Records Office. Len
