HotPhil
He may be right. Something also bugs me in that I've head/seen somewhere the description "oldest commercial building in Sheffield" in relation to the OQH. To me, that sounds like it may not have always been a pub. Salster!
I've always been under the impression that it was the Queens Head too.

Plain Talker
Queens Head is the oldest building that is licenced. I believe the Nailmakers has the honour of having held a license for the longest time , there's a small and subtle difference between the two. (didn't think the bull and oak was that old, anyway!)
Meaks
The Old Queens Head is the oldest commercial building in Sheffield, but as PT says it hasn't always been a pub.
PopT
o many pubs have been rebuilt and moved over the years that this question is virtually unanswerable unless the question is qualified. It is said the monks made the beer for the Black Bull in Ecclesfield long before the Queen's Head was built but yet the present pub is nowhere as old as the Queens Head building. The ever changing city boundaries and Licencing are other factors to take into consideration. Happy Days!
