rogsheff
Hi everyone, I hope everyone has the Christmas they want and all the best for the new year. I live in S11 Nether Edge and just wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations of a suitable pub in the area, where you can go for a quiet, social drink and/or a meal without loud music or the sports channel playing in the background. Ideally, if it is in walking distance, all the better. Having said that, open to suggestions within reasonable driving distance. Thanks.
Rich
If you fancy going a bit further afield, there's plenty of quiet Pubs in Stannington, S6. Starting from the Anvil at the bottom of Stannington Road, then the Robin Hood at Little Matlock, then a bit further up the hill is the Sportsman, then the Peacock, then Minnie's (Rose and Crown), and finally the top House (Crown and Glove). Perfect Pub crawl!
Tyranna
For anyone who prefers a true 'Gay' or Gay-Friendly pub, about the best recommendation for a quiet venue is the Lions Lair, which is the only purely pub Gay establishment in the city. Dempseys also operates as a pub with food until late, but after 10pm gets VERY busy with loud music/karaoke and usually only members can get in after 10. Its got a video jukebox that is on all the time and generally on a loud setting!
jamesogt
S11 8JB! Devonshire Arms Eccy Rd. A lot of people think it may be 'rough' due to its proximity to the flats, it isn't! No tv's, just a jukebox that is zoned can be turned up and down in certain areas. Siba scheme so plenty of local handpull, and a car park should you only have one or two and want to drive home. Plenty of seating to sit and chat, and generally an older quieter crowd than the rest of eccy rd! Usually open 12-11 everyday apart from Saturdays without footy we open at 5. Though these will be adjusted due to the loss of daytime trade until January 4th. http://devonshirearms.thebigmenu.co.uk/ Cheers James
