mholey
Hi everyone, I hope everyone has the Christmas they want and all the best for the new year. I live in S11 Nether Edge and just wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations of a suitable pub in the area, where you can go for a quiet, social drink and/or a meal without loud music or the sports channel playing in the background. Ideally, if it is in walking distance, all the better. Having said that, open to suggestions within reasonable driving distance. Thanks. The Union in Nether-edge meets your needs to an absolute tee, and walking distance to boot!
Carborundum
So I see Irelqand also suffers from noisy pubs - the problem is ENDEMIC ! http://www.independent.ie/opinion/letters/silence-in-pubs-would-be-golden-1265006.html
diablo
The Three Merry lads at Lodge moor is a lovely quite relaxing country pub which serves food, And the Highcliffe at Greystones is also a quality pub, this does not serve food though. fyy123
No pubs are quiet any more ... THEY ARE ALL LOUD They are quiet in the Hope valley especially this time of year. The Derwent hotel at Bamford only had one other customer in the other night.
samstar999
The Union is deffo the place for you (apart from it doesn't do food). The Nether Edge Tav is actually a hotel and it seems to be full of travelling workers in the weekdays. Nothing wrong with that - but they do have the telly on whenever it is sport. (And the food is awful). Sheaf is the best pub in the area - no food though and a fair hike on foot from S11 Nether Edge. Union it is then! samesame monkey
I will second the vine and the sheaf view, both quality boozers, although the vine is full of hippies:wow: the cremorne on london road is also good though it has music playing most of the time. p.s. I like hippies;)
scoobz
The Harlequin on Nursery street may be the answer to your quest. It's funny you should recommend the Harlequin, for exactly these reasons it's been chosen by the Sheffield Forum Walking Group for a night out soon, see http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=281649 for details.
