metalman
Finished Michael Gilbert (pleasantly witty and erudite, satisfyingly done all round) and now I'm on to What You Make It, a collection of short stories by Michael Marshall Smith. Cautionary note to budding writers: don't write stories that feature computer technology heavily. Just have a read of Smith's opening story 'More tomorrow' and see how quickly it has dated, to the extent that it now seems as remote as something from the Victorian era: floppy disks, newsgroups, alt.binaries and descriptions of how you have to download pictures from the internet in several stages and then put them back together. And this was only 15 years ago (it won the British Fantasy Society award for best short story in 1996). Still very entertaining though.
