Pub name on Ecclesfield / Shiregreen border

Recommended Posts

Need a problem solving that caused much discussion over Christmas.

Where Green Lane, Ecclesfield meets Ecclesfield Rd, Shiregreen, (at the very bottom of Sicey Avenue, there used to be a garage / car sales and just above that was a pub. To the locals that pub was always known as "Tetleys" because of the big red illuminated sign advertising what beer was sold there. Our discussion revolved around what the pub was really called, as there's one opinion that said the pub couldn't have been named after what beer it sold, and must have had a proper name.

Can anyone cast their mind back a few years and come up with the answer?

The Penguin maybe?

Someone suggested that, but The Penguin's at the bottom of Mason Lathe Rd near the junction with Bellhouse Rd. And I believe that The Penguin's still there, the pub we're trying to find is flattened.

Thanks anyway

the Huntsman? (and I don't mean the Wetherspoon's Huntsman in the city centre)

(edit to add, sorry that pub is still standing, at the Sicey Ave Xroads, below the old cinema that's now "job lot")

No it's not, that was flattened ages ago, they're building there now.

the pub you are all about is SHIREGREEN HOTEL.

the pub below he job lot was called THE HUNTSMAN

they have both been knocked down

and the other one is THE SICEY HOTEL

thats gone as well

the only pub left on the SHIRGREEN is the PENGUIN

another pub that could be said to be in SHIREGREEN.

is THE HORSESHOE that was knocked down years ago
