ok not quite a myth but....

the hole in the rd wasnt filled in..... a m8 who is an electrical engineer had to go out through the old 'scofields' building to get to sum connections. He said it was still there 'mostly' posters n stuff still up. scared the crap outta him tho.

dig the bugger up i say, it was a great sheffield landmark.

This website supports a family story that goes back to my great-grandfather who was a police officer during world war two.

The story goes after the fires were out they tried for weeks to match the body parts of some of the victims to give them a proper funeral. But after weeks of rooting through mud and foul they had to call it a day and the site of the blast was excavated and sealed in lime. A few years later the new Marples was built on top of the existing site.

The story goes that my great-grandfather refused to speak of the incident in front of any women and only told men who asked about the subject.

Yeah, started by one of them to take the heat off their bacon resembling red and white stripes!

I once read about a fellow nicknamed 'spring heeled Jack' who was supposed to jump out and scare people on their travels around the Norfolk park area. I can't remember the exact date but I think it was in Victorian times when imaginations ran a bit wild.

That interested me as to whether or not it was real and here is the wikipedia page, it's definitely a myth! Not just in Sheffield though and apparently he could jump extraordinary lengths! :)

Wondered why on earth it's next to a swimming bath, was that really the safest location for when a bomb drill went off?

Well possibly yes, plenty of water to put out fires!

I am still curious as to why there is a shortwave aerial suspended from the chimney at the baths, does anyone know?
