Longshanks
LOL @ Peaches but you said you expect sarcastic comments?! I always feed em bread in hillsb park.. its just natural thing to do! I always throw the crusts outside too on the grass for the birds/squirrels Sorry Gina and Peaches, I was being a bit over-sensitive last night. Longshanks
I couldn't find any info on this on the RSPB website, but I have heard Bill Oddie say that it's preferable to feed ducks seeds rather than bread.
Agent Orange
Gonna say, lots of people feed the ducks down our local pond and as yet, I havent seen any bloated ducks failing to take off as a resulf of eating bread
mrmist
Gonna say, lots of people feed the ducks down our local pond and as yet, I havent seen any bloated ducks failing to take off as a resulf of eating bread It would cancel itself out anyway. If a duck became too fat to fly, it would also become too slow to get to the bread before the leaner, faster ducks, and would therefore lose weight. Thus the cycle begins again. daftlad
it is bad for them if it is kingsmill. has anybody had a worse bread than that
MardyBum66
Especially if you throw a full loaf at one like in the film About a Boy It was funnier in the book!
getto_sniper
i should think to feed them the all grain with all the seeds and nuts would be a good compromise
donnylass26
its dangerous for baby ducks as it swells in the stomach and kills them ! best to buy seed for the little ones but as for bread for adults i have never heared of that if the bread is to fresh it sticks to their beaks thats not nice. sarah x

MadManMoon
OK, so I expect plenty of sarcastic comments, but I keep hearing and reading that it is a really bad idea to feed ducks bread. Apparently it's extemely bad for their health, shortens their lives and pollutes the water. Some information e.g. http://www.liveducks.com/bread.html suggests that we shouldn't feed ducks artificially at all. Much worse for them is shooting them. Which is what rich posh boys like to do.
