Is feeding ducks bread bad for them?

Recommended Posts

OK, so I expect plenty of sarcastic comments, but I keep hearing and reading that it is a really bad idea to feed ducks bread. Apparently it's extemely bad for their health, shortens their lives and pollutes the water. Some information e.g.

http://www.liveducks.com/bread.html

suggests that we shouldn't feed ducks artificially at all.

I am more used to shooting and eating them, (and I am not posh) than feeding them bread. That said we have a duck pond close to home that has wild Mallard on it all of the time. My close neighbours feed them every day, mostly bread I would say by the look of it. These (wild/tame) Mallard have no problems in flying of that I am certain. My Earth dogs cannot catch them, off they go light lightening when the dogs get too near.

Angel.
