All books printed using POD technology will have some quality issues. Curling covers and loose pages are the most common ones, I'm told--although Lulu is said to be of higher quality than most. As for typos, that's the responsibility of whoever edited the book, and has nothing to do with the printing service they use. If it's self-published, and the writer hasn't paid for an editing service (which is a minefield all of its own), then you have to hope he's good at editing too. Which very few people are.
