article from the AMG website:

KT Tunstall to play Carling Academy Sheffield.

Following on from the acquisition of South Yorkshire’s former Roxy nightclub, Academy Music Group (AMG) can confirm the venue will be renamed Carling Academy Sheffield. The £3,000,000 development is underway and scheduled to open in April 2008. Plans for the venue include a large main auditorium and a secondary smaller room, emulating the success of its multi-room format at other AMG venues across the country, with an overall building capacity in excess of 2,000 *subject to the licence*. The diary is now open and already KT Tunstall has been confirmed to play Carling Academy Sheffield in the opening month with tickets for the gig on Wednesday 16th April 2008. Brit Award winner and Grammy nominee, KT Tunstall is riding high with her latest album ‘Drastic Fantastic’, the follow-up to her 4 million selling debut, ‘Eye To The Telescope’.

That the building is going to be converted into a live music venue.

Possibly a Carling Academy?

Another rumour is that it is getting knocked down!

However these are only rumours.

Just wondering if anyone has any confirmed information about how the site is going to be developed.

or has anyone any other rumours?

Sounds interesting. Sheffield has always struggled to attract bands. I always used to read Kerrang and Metal Hammer as a kid and weep at the gigs section; all the bands I liked that were on tour hardly ever came to Sheffield.

Judging from AMG's website, I probably wont like most of the events they put on at the Roxy, but it's always good to see another venue pop up.
