The bomb was dicovered on the open cast (Shand) they were about to put it on my Dads truck when it was identified as a bomb. It was detinated at about 6o'clock that night. What an old thread..but..i also worked for Shand Mining and i was working in the area when the bomb was found on a Friday,it was actually buried in the sub-soil not too far down and i saw it drop out,the shovel driver thought it was a big rock !!! at first..if your dads name was Fred..from Norwood.....i knew him quite well and had a few pints with him too..... dawn19run Posted August 30, 2013 Share Posted August 30, 2013 It was definately 1977 i remember it well i was pregnant with my 2nd child aand living then on Inkersall drive Westfield,I was in the kitchen at the sink when it went off, the house shook and i saw my windows go almost concave with the force of the blast,my neighbours came running round as they thought my gas cooker had expolded.
