Couldn't think of a name for this thread as I don't think the place has a name yet :P

From the Telegraph:

New concept in dining on menu

FOUR leading city restaurateurs are joining forces to launch an ambitious new venture at the former AUEW offices in Sheffield city centre.

Gian Bohan and Maurizio Mori of Nonna's, Adrian Bagnioli of Cubana and Chris Jordan of Takapuna are pooling their expertise to create a new concept in dining and entertainment at the old union building adjoining Furnival Square roundabout.

The ground floor is to be an upmarket steak room, with a glass lift rising to a mezzanine level with private wine room.

Above will be a bar, lounge and an entertainment space featuring live acts from jazz and salsa bands to DJ music.

"We're talking about something different in the way of entertainment – something discerning, sophisticated and elegant," says Gian.

"All we hear is 'There's nowhere to go for over-25s in Sheffield'. We're going back to qualities like attention to detail and attitude to service, catering for people who appreciate good entertainment and good service."

From Tuesday to Thursday the venue will have a laid-back feel – "something like Ronnie Scott's" – while at weekends it is designed to take on a discerning lounge club feel, catering for up to 250.

The ground-floor steak room will have an open kitchen and an 'evolved classics' menu featuring the best cuts of meat from around the world: including Argentinian, Florentine and Aberdeen Angus steaks.

On the upper floor diners will be offered everything from complimentary canapes with table service, to a full three-course meal, depending on the function.

Planning and licensing applications have already been approved and finer details are currently being finalised with the interior designer and architect.

Redevelopment work is due to start at the end of April with a provisional opening in September.

The office tower is near the still-emerging Heart of the City complex where a casino is due to open in the autumn, with more restaurants to follow.

Sounds promising, and should help bring life into the area.

It dos sound promising - as long as it delivers any of what it promises. Are we convinced these guys, judging by their efforts to date can pull this off? Sounds like they're planning something on the lines of Smiths of Smithfield.

Possible names: The Dore Residents Club, The Front Dore, The People From Dore With Bentleys or Other Luxury Cars Club, Snobs. ;)

"Upmarket" / "private wine room" -

Its going to get a slating on here!

Only if the owners seem to up their own bums, it is possible to have a classy restaurant/wine bar without it being pretentious and overpriced. Hopefully the Cubana guy won't be in charge of the food.

Any examples?

In Sheffield, no, but in london there are loads, and abroad.

Edit : Froggies Bistro on London Road was classy, laid back, relaxed with good food and wine, but it was very down to earth.

Shame it's shut now :(
