Detonate come crushing back into focus after their staggering birthday celebrations last month. Celebrating a mammoth nine years in the game, this party marks the first official one of their tenth year of raving, and as the decade draw ever nearer they continue to pull out the stops musically. Serving up the Steel City with a brutal array of funk defined and gilt edged breakbeat based music, once again it's a powerhouse of rowdy drum n bass rhythms, bass heavy hip-hop and dubstep sonics clamoring to be heard.

Headlining is DnB titan Mampi Swift, a man whose regal position at the top of the Jungle, quite literally, continues to be affirmed year after year. Possessing a devastating aplomb in delivering only the heaviest and sickest of cuts, Mampi has developed an iconic fix upon the genre. Quick to serve up floor smashing bangers as readily as he is with evil grooves, he's retained a nasty and dark aesthetic without ruining the impact of his music. His Imprint Charge Recordings continues this commitment, hauling DnB to the dark side and pushing it to the limits of where it can be taken.

 

He's joined by 1Xtra's leviathan Bailey. Charged with bringing the freshness to the UK's premier Black music station, Bailey has been at the forefront of the furthering of the drum n bass sound. His show has always focused on the most innovative, exciting and dynamic selections the scene has thrown up, managing to shed light on the likes of Pendulum, Chase & Status and Cyantific, gifting them vital exposure as they took on the world.

 

Elsewhere a staggering ensemble heads up the rooms, with TK and Transit Mafia firing the shots as usual. Alex Deadman, Rogue State, Junglist Alliance MC's and Foxy & E-LL make up the final acts.
