pietro
I'v got a copy of the Sheffield Star from January 28 1966. Theres an ad for the Sheffield Esquire Club featuring amonst others: The Insect (Hollies style group from Manchester) The Who , Alan Price , Ivan Meads , The Powerhouse Six . The ad finishes: "Next All Nighter?, Very soon! Aren't ours the ultimate! Everyone comes, even little herbert with his beard on. " So who was Little Herbert? and did he go (with or without his beard). (Just noticed the paper is 39 years old tomorrow)

owdlad
I think Little Herbert was a well known "Gentleman of the streets" at that time.

billy
I have memories of little herbert...he could be found out walking the streets of sheffield most days and i can even remember seeing him out in derbyshire, he was always well dressed and wore a trilby hat. I first encountered him at Brunswick trinity church on Highfields in the late seventies and a few years later he lived next door but one to my Gramma in totley.
