smiths565
Could be - but I was expecting it to be either a hospital or an area. any ideas. http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk
Strix
Hospital births were unusual then (but possible). Is it a chinese wispers thing, and their birth was registered at St Barts? (I'm not sure when the registry office took over from the church as the register holders)
smiths565
Could be I suppose. I don't know when the registry office started. I'd assumed earlier than 1895. Anyway, thanks for the idea's. The BMD site shows he was born in the Ecclesall Bierlow area. which doesn't include Attercliffe. it does include Bramhall; Dore; Ecclesall Bierlow; Ecclesall Central; Ecclesall North; Ecclesall South; Ecclesall West; Nether Hallam; Norton; Sharrow; Upper Hallam. http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk

smiths565
http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ Thanks for the help everybody. I think 'retep' is probably right. He was probably born in a hospital at Ecclesall Bierlow and lived in a parish connected to St Bart's. 'Dollypeg' - thanks also - I didn't know there was church there. this could be the St Bartholomews I'm looking for. 'Strix' - thanks for the info. Cheers Robert. Greybeard
Here's an interesting web page about the Nether Edge Hospital/Ecclesall Union Workhouse http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/EcclesallBierlow/EcclesallBierlow.shtml I was born there and also went to school there in the building that used to be the Ecclesall Bierlow Union offices...and my great grandfather was also born there, - when it was the workhouse !
