Personally I think the people on the forum do realise.

The BNP and their sympathisers are quite visible on this site and 'enlighten' the debate with their views and beliefs, many of which are conceived on false assumptions.

OR lysergic acid diethylamide;)

Just heard on Look Leeds that Sheffield don't start counting until 10.00am tomorrow morning. Other areas seem to be starting much earlier. Why is this? Who decided this?

I don't trust counts that don't happen right away.

When I was an agent I had someone at every poling station watching the ballot box right up till it was emptied at the count.

Now its taken out of sight and stored 'in a safe place' overnight, this is wrong, it gives opportunity to have voting fixed.

The polls have now closed.

There is now nothing more that candidates can do to win over any potential voters.

Tomorrow the candidates will face the verdict of their electorate. I believe that jgharston, The Chavs as well as myself will be bringing you the results at different points in time, with details of the winners and losers, any nail biting recounts, and what the political landscape of our city will look like for the next two years.

Labour need just 2 overall gains to become the majority administration, and the Lib Dems need just 4 overall gains to become the majority administration. Anything less for either party will mean another hung council.

These are the results to watch out for:

BEAUCHIEF & GREENHILL

The local sitting Lib Dem councillor has retired, but can Labour win this seat, or will the Lib Dems hold on?

CENTRAL

Long standing Labour councillor Jean Cromar has also retired. Can the Green Party make it a clean sweep of three ward councillors, or will Labour hold on?

DORE & TOTLEY

Will Cllr Anne Smith survive as the only Conservative city councillor, or will the Lib Dems take this crucially needed seat?

EAST ECCLESFIELD

Labour were only 74 votes behind the Lib Dems last year, but can the Lib Dems fend off the Labour challenge this year?

GLEADLESS VALLEY

Labour held the seat in 2006 with a majority of 49, but last year the Lib Dems took the seat with a majority of 51. So, only 50 votes either way can determine whether popular Labour councillor Terry Fox holds his seat, or whether former councillor Frank Taylor can make it two in a row for the Lib Dems.

HILLSBOROUGH

The Lib Dems had a convincing win last year, and are certainly hoping to make it two in a row. Can Labour hold on?

MOSBOROUGH

Two seats are being contested, both Labour held. But can the Lib Dems take one or both seats?

NETHER EDGE

Although normally regarded as a Lib Dem held seat, if you've passed through Abbeydale Road in the last few weeks, you can't have failed to notice the profusion of Labour posters. Can Labour pull off a surprise result?

STANNINGTON

A Lib Dem held seat, which former councillor Alf Meade is hoping to win for Labour.

STOCKSBRIDGE & UPPER DON

Can the popular councillor, Martin Davis, hold onto his seat? Although elected as a Lib Dem, Cllr Davis subsequently resigned the whip to sit as an Independent. The Lib Dems need to win back this key seat, but will the Independent councillor hold on?

WALKLEY

Labour lost this seat to the Lib Dems by only 36 votes last year. Can former councillor Veronica Hardstaff win back this seat, or will the popular sitting Lib Dem councillor (and former Lord Major) Diane Leek be returned for a further four year term?

It was determined by the Returning Officer.

Actually there is. They can get hold of the ballot boxes while they're "stored in a safe place" and rig the results.

Does nobody else find it worrying that we're condemning the Zimbabwe government for delaying election results, and yet we're delaying election results?

Why isn't Sheffield starting counting until 10 tomorrow? As far as I can recall, waiting up for results in previous years, this could be a first. It breaks with tradition, takes the excitement (and heaven knows there isn't a lot!) out of politics. I'm not happy about this. Again, it stinks of "we know best". If people in other parts of the country who pay a lot less council tax than us, get to wait up to see the count, why can't we?

Hillsborough

Said in "star"

Ongoing bitterness over the WISEWOOD and MYERS school merger means Labour is vulnerable to losing anouther councillor Robert Macdonald, in hillsborough !!

Think we will have to wait and see , BUT i have to say i have not seen robert in the area, only janet bragg (very late afternoon) and Harry harpham- tho im not sure why harry harpham is delevering leaflets around here!! PEOPLE are still very mad with Harry around here!!!! abit stupid for labour to send him here in my opinion

Absolutely. I'm disgusted. I was disgusted to hear it on TV, Sheffield being singled out as not starting counting until 10am tomorrow. I looked on the council website for confirmation, no wonder they don't want to give a start time - it's disgraceful.
