Open Mic Nights

Recommended Posts

Malin Bridge Hotel at, you guessed it, Malin Bridge goes one better than an open mic night as you get to perform on stage and through a decent PA system!

I've done it once, playing my own guitar and singing and later on playing drums (somewhat rustily after a long time off) and I have to say it was a good night (the Magnet on tap helped, of course).

I believe the sessions run twice a week, Sunday evening and once in the week.

Well worth checking out.

Red House, Solly Street is probably the best.

Casbah, Washington Street also does one.

Fagans (near St George's Church), has open folk sessions, though that's more a big group playing improv together, rather than open-mic.

As Mr. Doctor says, we do indeed have an open mic night, of sorts.. there's a emphasis on jamming, which mostly occurs in blues and funk styles (which makes it easier for people to jump in and start singing if they feel the urge!) but it's a bit of a free for all to be honest. Sometimes people come and play some covers and that's all good, in fact there's usually a good balance between standards, covers and improv as the various musicians alternate throughout the night.

There's always a few in-house musicians around to get things going too so there's no worries about breaking the ice. However, we suggest that if you want to hear a specific song you bring yer guitar and play it yersen, that's the whole idea!

It happens every Monday from 10pm and entry is FREE. We'll probably take this Monday (Bank Holiday) off though as we've got an exhaustive All Dayer on the Sunday.
