Whilst no-one wants anyone to lose jobs, why on earth should the BBC be any different to anyone else? In fact, the distinct lack of outcry just goes to show how few people are bothered by the fact that 20% of BBC staff might have to join the rest of us here in Manure Street. The BBC is seen by some as a self serving organization that has long needed it's fat trimming.

I read this morning that The BBC still pays 275 "stars" a combined fee of £65m a year. That's ridiculous.

And as for NUJ giving out leaflets, well fair enough. But aren't you bound by law to be impartial in your reporting? I assume that anyone involved in leafletting will also tell management that they are unable to report on the cuts as their feelings have been made public on it?

My friend works in town, and tells me there is a BBC conference in town this week. How much is that costing?

Hardly listen now, only to Toby Foster, though he seems to be on/off now as often as that Antonia Brickell bint was. Not sure what contract he's got with Radio Sheff but it always seems to be "random" when the guys on - I turn on the radio and maybe he's on, else that dreadful Paul Walker's doing his show. There's also some other bird who hangs around the microphone generally acting like a gobby slapper.

Outside of the odd sports broadcast I dont listen to Radio Sheffield as it just doesnt cater for me , but as a white middle aged male in full time employment I would have thought I was in their target audience , I'm not even sure what their audience is anymore , 50-60 yr old ladies who lunch ? , WRVS ? , Chatsworth show goers ?. Sheffield is a working class city built round the steel industry , local radio should reflect that but it appears most of the BBC local radio stations fall into this trap , they are becoming irrelevant to the local population and as they stand at the moment not many would mourn their passing. Merging with regional or national programming would be the final straw , listening numbers would collapse and the stations will close down.

i switch between radio sheffield and 5 live depending on topic.

may change stations if theres some music on i don't like.

with regard to music, what i do find annoying is when they play something i like and make no announcement to singer/song title.it doesnt happen a lot but its not very professional .

i like toby foster now, took a while for him to grow on me though--but he's good at his job--will have learned a lot from roney robinson he's a real pro.

(though he's the who forgets to name music mostly)-but can be excused is getting on a bit now.

paul walker is good in lesser doses--is getting better.but can come accross as a bit condescending to callers.

the gobby slapper i think your referring to is jenny who has a lot to put up from toby and paul with their teasing --and sexist remarks.

seth is also very good.

I've heard they might play some music sometime in the future.

If you want to listen to music tune in instead to RedroadFM, otherwise BBC RS has it all.

If you want to know what is going on in Barnsley or Wath listen to Toby Foster.

If you want a right laugh listen to the empty heads that ring in between 6-7.00pm.

If you want a bit of a giggle listen to Paulette (she also has a wonderfuly sexy husky voice).

If you want a bit of class and some real intellectual chatter, listen to Rony (he lives in Totley).

:)

Paulette used to be a fire-eater,getting her big break at the Edinburgh Fringe.Toby is exceptional shaking the parochialism of shefield with his injections of an alternative lifestyle found north of our great city.I expect you fing that Clowne and staveley have a similar impact on life in Derbyshire's first and last.
