Where to go for evening drink in the country

anyone know of any good pubs other than fox house which are a bit rural?

It all depends on where you want to go and how far. Here are a few to try....all excellent. BTW there is a small "peak district pub guide" which will give some excellent recomendations - try bookshops.

 

IMO the Fox House is nothing much, a fairly boring chain pub with a fake atmosphere. Try some decent independent pubs in the peaks:

 

Grouse Inn - Longshaw (About 2 miles from the Fox House) Great pub, atmosphere, food and beer. Excellent Beer Garden.

 

Barrel Inn - Bretton. Highest pub in Derbyshire. (5 miles from Fox House). Excellent views across White Peak, Great food and beer.

 

Millstone - Hathersage (2miles from Fox House) again well worth a visit

 

Cheshire Cheese - Hope (5 Miles from Fox House on Edale Rd in Hope) - Cracking little country pub.

 

Then Tacking back nearer to Sheffield try:

 

The Horns Lodge - Bradfield - Superb high views over the valley

 

The Plough Bradfield - Excellent local beer

 

The Cricket Inn - Totley, superb food and Thornbridge Beer

 

The Cricketers - Lodge Moor

 

The Three Merry Lads Lodge Moor - again great views

 

Yorkshire Bridge - Ladybower

 

Well those are just are few near to Sheffield. Heading further into the peaks there are scores more gems to be found.
