carriewarr
I'm trying to find out some information about the Sheffield Public House Trust Company, which was active in the early 1900's in Sheffield. It was associated with a similar national movement, founded by Earl Grey (of the tea fame!) in 1900. It was set up to encourage 'temperance' by leasing public houses to people who received a higher proportion of profits from non alcoholic drinks and food, compared to the sale of alcoholic drinks. We know they had the Rising Sun (Fulwood Rd) lease from 1904.....and it then the lease then passed to Courage (but we're not sure when). Does anyone have any information about them? In particular, how did they operate.....and how did it affect the trade in their leased pubs? And when did they cease to exist (assuming they are no longer around). Any info appreciated! Cheers, Carrie

nickycheese
Don't know if it's of interest, but there's an antique shop on Abbeydale Road that still has 'Temperance Bar' underneath it's window.
