tomlinson Posted May 26, 2008 Share Posted May 26, 2008 Hi I am doing my family tree and trying to find my Granparents John Thomas Gascoigne born 05 October 1890 who was married to Cecilia Oldham born 14 September 1894, married on the26 September 1913. My Mother Cecilia Gascoigne born 1924 in 148 Coleford Road, Sheffield, my grandfather lived and worked in Sheffield as a Stone Miner in Coal Mines, as a boy I came to Sheffield and my mother had a big family, has any one any ideas where I could look or know any of her brothers or sisters. Tuppie Posted May 27, 2008 Share Posted May 27, 2008 This looks like Cecilia. 1901 census RG13/4382 folio 25 2ct 8 hse Bright Street Alfred OLDHAM / Head/aged 26 Coal Miner underground born Sheffield Sarah OLDHAM /wife/age 26 born Sheffield Herbert OLDHAM / son / aged 4 born Sheffield Cecilia OLDHAM /daughter/ aged 6 born Sheffield Alice OLDHAM/ daughter/ aged 2 born Sheffield. There is a possible marriage for Alfred OLDHAM and Sarah KELFORD in the March Q 1894 registered in Sheffield. Frank Gascoigne 1920 Apr-May-Jun Oldham Sheffield James A Gascoigne 1914 Apr-May-Jun Oldham Sheffield Wilfred Gascoigne 1915 Jul-Aug-Sep Oldham Sheffield Obviously will be more but not been transcribed yet to easy search option, meaning time consuming search through each Quarter of each year to find any others. Also other siblings may have been mistranscribed, as your mother Cecilia is not on the list although found her registered within the Jul-Sept Quarter of 1924. devlin Posted May 29, 2008 Share Posted May 29, 2008 Hi Tomlinson, done a little digging for you and have come up with the following, Births (please note all registered in Sheffield all have mother with maiden name Oldham, also given is Quarter of the registration and the volume and page number should you want to get any copy certificates) James A Gascoigne AMJ 1914 9C 1459 Wilfred Gascoigne JAS 1915 9C 1259 Harold Gascoigne OND 1918 9C 1104 Frank Gascoigne AMJ 1920 9C 1457 Norman Gascoigne JAS 1921 9C 1309 Nellie Gascoigne OND 1923 9C 1062 Cecilia Gascoigne JAS 1924 9C 1131 Herbert Gascoigne JFM 1929 9C 956 Also I found the following deaths; Wilfred Gascoigne OND 1915 aged 0 9C 766 Norman Gascoigne JFM 1922 aged 0 9C 457 Although these death entries do not give a family connection such as the births give a maiden name, I have checked and from what I can see there was neither a Wilfred or Norman born anywhere else in the counrty in the time frame of these deaths, both of which were registered in Sheffield. GASCOYNE Nellie 23 Oct 1923 aged 13d dau of John Thomas 148 Coleford Rd Darnall GB61gp. Note the different spelling but all at the same address.
