Parking Permits in Hillsborough.

Recommended Posts

You have just answered your own Question. Doing it as you suggested means their isnt as much financial gain for the council as there is from parking permit charges and ticket machines.

The parking permit scheme is a right racket. The extortionate cost of a permit goes way ,way beyond the Admin cost of printing and posting out a permit.

Permit Costs

The costs of permits are increasing on 1 April 2012 and are as follows:

Resident - First permit £20, second and additional permits £60

Business - First permit £40, second and additional permits £90

Visitor - £10 for a book of 25 daily permits

Trade - £50 for a book of 25 daily permits

Special (health workers) - £10 per year

The council try and claim local residents want parking permit zones ,but if that was the case ,and they were doing it for residents , then they would only charge a fee to cover the cost of printing and posting a permit , not the extortionate charges listed on the councils own website. Those charges prove beyond any doubt that the parking permit is all about ripping off motorists as usual .

I think the daily charge of 5 pence is quite acceptable, especially as you are guaranteed a parking space-estate agents estimate this adds £1-2000 to the value of a house. As a letting landlord you will be quids in with all those properties you(allegedly)own.

The whole point is you are not guaranteed a parking space.

As for the snidey dig at another poster who is open about what his business is, have you got some kind of personality issue that makes you do this again and again?

And as a house seller you may well suffer - local estate agents round here suggest that it puts people off - especially when you are not guaranteed a parking space even having paid for a permit.

Where does it say you are guaranteed a space?

Do you agree with the 80% price increase from £20 to £36?

Question to Planner1

Instead of upsetting loads of people by charging everyone with either a ticket from a machine or a parking permit for residents WHY did they not put a 2hr parking limit during the day on the affected roads that way no one is parked up all day but people could still use the shops, banks etc everyone is happy simple really.that is unless the council DO see the motorist as easy picking ...........waits for a reply with baited breath

This question was raised when another scheme was put in place 'for the benefit of the resisdents' and 'to stop commuter parking' - a simple 2 hours limit during the day would have done the job - but no - they wanted to milk the cash cow as much as possible - these cows now provide a surplus of nearly £1 000 000 per year - much of which is invested in infrastructure outside the areas in which it was generated.

So basically the areas with parking schemes are subsidising the rest of the city.

I am sorry but this other person boasts about having student lets and then admits he pays council tax on them, somewhat inconsistent. There is a business section for soliciting business ,and there is no reason to bring such issues into general comments, especially where the claims are exaggerated.

However if people are looking for business it seems rather unwise to make comments about the less privileged section of the communities, such as users of the market gypsies and other minorities.

3p per day is £10.95 per annum.

5p per day is £18.25 per annum.

Permits are £20, raising to £36 in April. They've never been £10.95 or £18.25.

Looks like maths is not your strong point.:)
