timcobbold
I drank in the broomhill tavern for about nine years (probably spending upwards of a grand over time) until one day i went into the toilet holding a rizla (a small one!) to make a rolly for when i'd finished "logging off". Next thing I know the landlord is banging on the toilet door yelling at me to get out, he tells me some old man saw me going into the toilet with a bag of drugs, i get chucked out and told "zero tolerance on druggies, don't come back!" - charming! how about zero tolerance on senile old men who need glasses and zero tolerance for pubs that don't respect customer loyalty. needless to say I havn't been back to the tav and doubt i ever will, pity cos i quite liked that pub. I wonder how long ago this was. The present landlord/tenant got the blog on last time we were in because we won on his Deal Or No Deal machine. Okay, that's putting it simply but my wife and I were in there on one of the machines and my mates followed us in and came to the machine beside us. Chris, who claims to 'never win on these things' did precisely that and we cheered. Next minute, Faceache comes downstairs and says 'I'm not a licensed games room, you know' simply because they hadn't - as yet - purchased a drink. Maybe because his pub was empty our celebrations seemed louder? Anyway, we drunk up and cleared off. Seems some landlords/tenants prefer empty pubs and empty tills. Walti9
Went into town after Broomhill on Saturday I ended up in the Red Deer, not been for a few years as i felt it was going downhill and not very clean. Anyway i found out that the lad thats taken on the Notty also has now got the Red Deer. The Red Deer was re-decorated throughout and very clean, loads of beers on! The Barman told me they were going to put up quite a few framed pictures of Sheffield -as was, and as is. Should be interesting. Nice to hae the Red Deer back on my circuit. ellekyte
I have heard that the Notty will have a limited menu, possibly specialising in pies. Mmmm... pies mmm... they are yummy pies! The Veggie one is excellent with loads of mash and mushy peas too.... can see this being an addiction. Good selection of cheeses on the wine and cheese night too, all british and v more-ish! goldenfleece
Anyone any more comments about THE YORK as it is at the moment?
Bilge
I see the awful yellow paint has gone, that's a good sign already. Is it worth venturing in again yet GF? Last time I went in (about 6 months ago) I thought this could be a nice proper pub again one day. I never bothered going in when it was O'Neills and was never keen to try the Scream version, but I was on a pub crawl in Broomhill so had to try it. No proper beer of course, so that put me off straight away and too much aimed at students only for an area that has many types of people passing through it. Been in many worse pubs though and the building is a nice one so fingers crossed. The Nottm is looking good these days and has nice beer. Possibly a bit too clean and clinical though? Maybe it just needs to scuff up a bit with wear.

Maybe it just needs to scuff up a bit with wear. The next bunch of scruffy students will soon sort that little problem out. I like the Notty and look very much forward to the improvements at The York. As you say, no real ale but their lagers also have quite an unpleasant 'buttery' taste to them. Still, handpulled (cheap) Magnet at the Fox And Duck means it's a no-brainer AFAIAC.
