Spin City Records-finally closing down

Recommended Posts

Sheffield's longest running closing down sale finally ends this weekend when Spin City on Westfield Terrace finally closes it's doors this Saturday.

The shop, which is one of the last places to obtain vinyl in Sheffield, has been open for 23 years in various sites. It started on the gallery at the Castle Market before moving downstairs to a very hard to locate position in the bowels of same market.

6 years ago it moved "uptown" to it's present position on Westfield Terrace, the busy thoroughfare between Nandos and the Frog and Parrott!

Only Record Collector and Rare and Racy have been open longer and the closure will further reduce the opportunities for getting good vinyl in Sheffield.

There'll be a final sale this week to clear out the last of the vinyl

That's sad news ... the end of an era, to coin a trite phrase, but one that we're bound to hear more and more in the coming years, as all these well loved independent places are forced to close their doors for one reason or another.

Best wishes for whatever the future holds for you!

Was this the place that was next to the Cafe on the Market Gallery and there was a bloke who sold old postcards who shared with the record sales

I remember a shop on the Castle Market gallery selling Northern Soul back in 74/75 - is this the same one?

Yes it is the same one that started on the Gallery at the Castle Market in the "mini market" with the old guy selling postcards and stamps.

Everyone has to start somewhere!

It took some courage to get up there as you had to walk past a group of skinheads who used to congregate outside the Cafe. But as you know, record hounds aren't easily put off!

The old guy is still there - complete with dozens of hand written notices telling you to do this or don't ask for that! :hihi::hihi: I don't know how he affords the £600 a month rent - there is never anyone in there when I pass!
