Light Bulb Hoarding

Recommended Posts

If they are going to ban traditional bulbs then what will I use in my lava lamps....its a combination of the heat and the light that makes it work.....with these new fangled bulbs - those flourescenty things - there will be light but no heat :hihi:

People with electric fires that use fireglow bulbs will be in the same situation

These things are important ;)

Seriously are they going to ban them entirely? Or will you still be able to get low wattage ones for lamps and so on? Doesn't make sense if people suddenly have to chuck out millions of perfectly good lamps.

Will you still be able to have halogen lights? I have an awesome halogen reading lamp...

All incandescent lamps will be banned over the next few years. You wont have to chuck them out you just wont be able to replace them.

No one seems to care about the stupidity of all the new light bulb regulations.

Anyone seen Las Vegas? - anyone seen London, and all the tourist attractions lit up with with hundreds of 500 watt bulbs? Have you seen all the seaside resorts, casinos and arcades, etc.?

So I save 50 watts of power whilst they use millions.

Ah! but that will bring the tourists in - Oh well, the planet doesn't matter in that case!

As usual, we are being told "Do as I say - not as I do"

I care about the planet as much as anyone and, I was using the new green bulbs as soon as they hit the market but, I still need proper bulbs for the inspection lamp & the garage where one bulb has to suffice. Far too much regulation nowadays and far too much telling us what to do whilst THEY do as they please!

I did have quite a few energy saving light bulbs I was sent through the post by EON and then British Gas. They were fine until I bought some fancy touch light switches off ebay. These turned my energy saving bulbs into mini strobe lights even when turned off so I had to change back to the old style light bulbs.

I think it was the way you fitted the light switches :loopy:

Why don't you all stop moaning about it and use the energy saving bulbs :loopy:

after a while you don't notice the difference

And it would be great for the environment as well

Unfortunately, there is a great difference - the energy saving bulbs are ok FOR SOME, but NOT ALL purposes.

On the scale we use energy today, our energy savings by using these bulbs are a drop in the ocean.

No there isn't much difference, they are dim when they first come on and then they get brighter

If you would wait instead of getting the face on after 10 seconds and putting the 100W back in

The government thinks the energy saving is worth making so you can resist and bulk buy them if you want but you are going to have to have the energy saving ones at some point

the 100w bulbs don't last long anyway so they will probably only last you a few years, the energy saving bulbs last about 4 years

I may stock up on these 100w bulbs as well because I can't see you people giving them up easily so they may be worth a lot on eBay in the future :hihi:

it is going to be great for the environment when they have all gone
