DJing in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I used to DJ at Casbah on Monday nights a couple of years ago and now I really want to get back into it. Is there anywhere in Sheffield that need DJs or people would recommend?

I'm wanted to play not-so-commercial stuff so your Saturday night at Leadmill kind of stuff wouldn't do..

It'd be mostly Indie and Electronica - e.g. Indie like Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Battles, Broken Social Scene, Beirut, Cold war kids, Talking heads, The Cure

....and electronica like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, SebastiAn, Daft Punk, Four Tet, 65daysofstatic, Chemical Brothers, etc etc

alas no promoters dare try anything new in todays climate fella, add to the fact that when a new night does appear the fine peeps off sheffield dispite there bitching and moaning about there being any new nights aint willing to gamble on it so the nights as a rule tend to fold, add the fact that what with carling alot of smaller venues have taken a hit, that and a lot of nights have effectively "closed down" for the summer while theres no students about then i hate to say that unless your gonna attempt to get your own night off the ground that your chances are pretty much nill! Wont be long till you see DJs standing around devonshire green with signs saying "Will DJ 4 FOOD!"

Good luck though anyways like! :)

yeah really the ONLY way to get started is the set up your own night somewhere and take a risk.....if you are any good and luck is on your side, the night will run long enough to get some interest from clubs or bigger bars, and they will then headhunt YOU!!!

Well it worked for me anyway......:)
