Fezler69
hello forum I'm going for a meal in Leopald Square on saturday night and want to wet my whistle beforehand - wheres the best pub nearby? I shall be with an elderly lady who drinks real ale like a fish.
Guderian
Why don't you drink in Leopold Sq? Platillos? Sylvesters? Poppolo? The nearest actual pub is opposite, called The Museum.
Fezler69
i'm after real ale really though - popolos may scare the old lady
Claret
dog and partridge, maybe? It's on trippet lane.
Bilge
Museum definitely nearest, if you don't want to be walking too far. Grapes and Dog n Partridge slightly further, but still close and both are better pubs I would say. 3 Tuns also not far, but I can never remember exactly which street it's on so it may be too far. The 2 Wspoons by the City Hall also nearby if beer rather than pub is the main thing.
Little Buzz
The Red Deer off Mappin Street does real ale, and you can always get the tram down to Leopold Square.
Ousetunes
Real ale? There are about 4 hand pulled ales in the Museum and usually offering a decent choice. Cheapest pint of bitter in town must surely be in the Brown Bear, a five minute walk away. Recently renovated, I think I paid £1.39 for a pint of Sam Smith's. There's the Sanctuary next to the Cathedral. Cracking pint of Bombardier last time I went in. There's the Irish Quarter, Dog And Partridge, Grapes and slightly further afield, Fagan's. Three Tuns is on Silver Street Head (or is it Silver Head Street?!!). Away from real ale, the best pint of keg lager in Leopold Square is the Grolsch served in the Leopold Hotel Bar. Unquiet
Dog and Partridge is pretty good. Decent beer and an especially good atmosphere when they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
